The World Cup
« on: June 13, 2006, 05:16:23 am »
OK, I'm not going to beat around the bush. The only reason I started this thread was to flaunt that fact that we beat Japan! Three goals in the last ten minutes! And anyway, the Japanese cheated in that goal. The referee even later stated that he missed it. So basically it should've been 3-0. So...anything else interesting?

Me: Yes, Iran vs Mexico was pretty awesome. England vs Paraguay was a shit match.
Me: Whatever.

Wait, who is we, again? Because I'm fairly sure that no one in their right mind enjoys the sport...It's like fishing or hunting or something...Something you'd need to be dead drunk to enjoy. It's like they managed to combine the boring factors of both baseball and basketball into one passtime.

I think they should play it on a field roughly 1/4 the size...and indoors...and there should be all sorts of oldschool Danger Room traps like flame throwers and spinning saw blades...

THEN you'd have a sport worthy of the entire world's attention.

Watched bits and pieces of it. Mexico ganked those goals off Iran. That was awesome. I play the sport after all, almost all my life now and hopefully continuing in college since High School is officially done today!!!

Graduation is this coming June 25th, the entire Compendium is invited to my grad party of course, but I doubt anyone is close by.

Anywho, I would really like to start seeing plans for "blitzball" (FFX & X-2) in the near future. The sport is actually quite badass and I'd play it. In the future, I think they'd develope some sort of "light weight" clear water, but for the breathing under water thing, I don't have an answer to that yet.

I don't like soccer/football that much, kinda boring when people run after a ball and try to make a goal...
Playing is fun, thou.

And WE will play against Poland today, bet we will own them without mercy(as usual...just boring)...
What is the motto in english btw? "Visiting friends"?

Soccer is the most technical and exhausting sport we have. Many people are now recognizing Soccer for what it truly is. Everyone says Lacrosse is the fastest sport on two legs . . . I am sorry, though I am sure there might be some Lacrosse people here, Lax is not the fastest sport and nobody really likes it. I find the sport to be quite stupid but fun to watch my friends get smacked with those stupid looking sticks.

Let's take the number one sport in the USA, Football. It's always fun to watch with friends, almost some of the time. So we've got bunch of 300lb men tackle each other, throw a weird looking object so the team can work its way up the field if the pass is complete and during the actual game, they have breaks where they reset their "football" and get ready to hike it off again. There's nothing intense about Football at all, sure it's very physical, but Soccer has its individuals working for a whole 45 minutes of non-stop running while coaches now in days never sub in player to player.

If you come to think about it, Soccer really is a hard working sport, probably up their in the top 3. What's the top 3? Well, that's for you to decide. I hear Tennis is hard and Swimming endurance is difficult...

There's a lot more strategy and thought in American Football than you make it seem...I mean, jeezus, just look at current Madden games and the like...You can't say there isn't a lot of skill going on there...It's one of the only sports that has so many different ways of scoring as well...

Brasil!

Brasil vs. Croatia was such a weak match that I felt frustrated and didn't feel like posting here... But now I feel a bit refreshed, and finally our team is showing some quality soccer, even though today's Brasil vs. Australia was a pretty weak match as well, but at least it had its highlights and both goals were greatly performed, the last being a surprise since Fred is a pretty unknown player even at Brasil. Parrera did the right choice. And one little comment... Geez, does Australia coach tell his players that the other team player's legs = the ball? There were some fauls that were worthy a Cameroons match...

Though, Australia did give us some work, it made a violent but considerably good game. I hoped Japan would be other team to classify, but as it is I guess Australia will deserve classification.

For future reference, anytime there is a major, international sporting event, its pretty much a safe bet that I hate it, because it means more work for me.  World Cup is no different.

I've got CEO's, heads of state, and celebrities taking their private jets into very limited spaces, all of which was planned out months ago -- in fact about the same the Olympics were going on.  And yet we still have that idiot who wants to break his guaranteed runway and airway slot time just so he can follow his favorite team around, undoing months of work, and then they get pissed off at me when they find themselves stuck in some backwater German berg with no way to get where they want to go.

Ah well.  At least the money is good.   Has the US been eliminated yet?

Hockey is probably a little faster than Soccer. I doubt people can run as fast as skate, and the ball... well, a frozen puck is far more deadly than a soccer ball. I don't think anyone in the crowd has ever died from a soccer ball. But, hey, I'm a little more partial to hockey. It annoys me that Lacross, of all things, is our national sport. Lacross?! It should be changed to hockey. We're the ones with the cold winters. It's a bloody travesty that the cup went to Carolina...

And to whoever said it, the motto is 'A time to make friends'; I was just in Germany a few days ago, and those signs were everywhere. I'm not a soccer fan at all, but it's incredible how big it is in Europe - even the little town of Ancient Corinth in Greece had practically ever tavern showing it... some with big-screen projectors!

Soccer is when Europeans go batshit insane over nothing and trample each other. That is the ultimate American definition I can offer.
