Well, I don't recall a hockey player having died*, but a woman in the stands did. From what I recall, the puck went right through the glass, and killed her. A nasty thing, a frozen puck is. But nevertheless, hockey is my favorite sport, for what that's worth (ie. I'm not into sports much at all, but if I had to pick one, it'd be hockey.) There are losts of scoring chances, but not too many goals (usually), the action is fast and there isn't much let-up... plus my city is arguably the greatest hockey city of this generation, so it's difficult not to like hockey, eh? That's why it's a little annoying that the cup goes to some little mid-western club which has only existed for a few years and who doesn't have half the fans we do in the north. I mean, can you imagine the World Cup for soccer going to a place like Mongolia? It's just not right. Though, admittedly, there were more Canadians on Carolina.
*Though they do get badly injured often. Take Pronger shooting the puck at Ryan Smith during the playoffs - that's an accident as both are on the same team - they were taking Smith's teeth off the ice. Funny thing is, Smith's such a resolute player, even though he could barely talk he kept wanting to rush back onto the ice.
