« on: July 03, 2006, 05:38:45 am »
today i was playing FF8 and i looked at the enemy "gesper" and it bears a striking resemblance to lavos

  - gesper
- lavos

well maybe the FF8 world has the very primitive form of the Lavos core. first off i tryed to see if their attacks are alike

GESPER    LV.1-100   HP:200-4000       Taste: n/a           AP: 2
Steal/Drop: Black Hole, Wizard Stone, Magic Stone, Gesper Card
  Rare Item : n/a
Card      : Gesper Card, Iguion Card
Attack    : Degenerator, Telekinesis, Protect, Blind, Curaga, (Punch)
  Draw      : Shell, Protect, [Float], {Dispel}
Descri.   : Blue & Gray like a hunchback mechanical monster [quite an
              Esthar old model..]
  Where     : Centra-Excavation Site (Laguna's Dream Sequence #2)
Lunatic Pandora's Research Center (Laguna's Dream
              Sequence #4.)
NOTE      : This beast is rather damaging.. if you wait for a long
time. It's Degenerator removes the character from the
battlefield [which seldom misses] and you can't revive
that character. It's telekinesis lifts up your
              character.. [circus?]. Weak against Poison.
Info      : Esthar's defective weapon. Attacks enemies and allies
              alike. Degenerator destroys opponent.

not really, but you later learn they do not originate on the planet, they come from the moon (like all monsters in that game) whos saying that they cant leave the planet like they left the moon? they probaly originate and breed on that planet, leave, get DNA and that DNA slightly changes their figure. from what i remember the gesper moves kinda funky just like lavos

It's probably a cameo, but I doubt they're storyline-related, since Lavos Core was invented on Earth from all of the Entity's energy and the DNA of all creatures on that planet. It could be possible that those monsters can be Lavos's spawn in a timeline where Crono and co. fail, but that would require some serious power-downing, and I just don't see that happening. :l

It's a cool idea, and I thank you for pointing out the similarity, but it's probably no different than the whole "Linken" deal from World of Warcraft.

Still, I bet Nomura's team took a few designs from the Dream Team.  I mean, Cloud wasn't the first Square character with spikey hair either.

Also, I don't believe the Lavos Core wasn't formed through the energy.  It probably gained its power through such energy.  I mean, the Lavos Core looks to me like an alien pilot, and Lavos itself is actually a spaceship. -CSM

Wow, you're right. It does kinda look like a pilot, in some way, and the shell being a spaceship sounds logical. I think.

It doesn't bear any resemblance to Lavos at all. Lavos' looks is something that you see in DBZ. After all, DBZ & CT's character designer is Akira Toriyama.

But Square can rip off them selves.

Look at Culex in Super Mario RPG. Thought to be in Final Fantasy 2, but he wasn't. Square just ripped themselves off.
