The only way an Ice Age could be caused is if enough dust gets thrown thrown into the atmosphere.  Lavos sucking the life out of the planet wouldn't cause dust to be thrown into the atmosphere.  That wouldn't darken the skies.  It would make the planets start to die, and then animals would follow, but it wouldn't cause an ice age.

Nobody said anything about Lavos sucking the life out of the planet causing dust to be thrown into the atmosphere.

CT world is different to ours. Enough dust wasn't thrown though, like I said, otherwise Ioka would have suffered greatly.

Also, if Lavos is sucking geothermal energy, or something like that, the planet would go into an ice age. Either way, it doesn't matter. Lavos' fall was jut supposed to mimic what happened on Earth.

Can't we all just live with the fact that Lavos landed and sucked the earth dry. This doesn't neccessarily have to be an issue that changes the way we look at the Chrono Trigger game. But I do find it quite interesting that when lavos landed he didn't create a massive crater like a meteorite would have. It's just a small enough hole for it to live in. Any meteorite would've completely destroyed everything within a few hundred miles or so upon landing.

It depends on how big is your meteorite to create such damage.

If it is as big as lavos then you're definately gonna get a much bigger blast.

Despite of Lavos' size, it doesn't do much damage to the surroundings. If Lavos is like a 500-meter meteor, it would have obliterated the Ioka & Laruba Village. But for some reason, Lavos himself reduced impact blast.

Don't forget that you can't see the map exactly how it is(bad wording sry). When we talked about the Death Peak for example, we had the same problem.
The crater may have been a few hundred miles big, we don't know, because we can't compare it to the size of characters etc. because Crono is not as high as a Dome for example(bad 1, again, but I hope you got what I mean).

I get it.  In order to see the sprites they made them big which made them able to walk across continents in a few steps. But the map itself is way bigger then what we're seeing these little sprites travel across. Remember how big the insides of some of the small looking buildings were.

Should we include anything from this thread? It seems as if the bottom line is that the Lavos impact, if examined with real science, could have never happened like that, nor could the Red Star have been seen from that far away in space.

Depends on how bright it really was.

It may have been possible to see this "red star" coming. Lavos is obviously advanced, that red protectice bubble around him as he impacted earth could've been as bright as a SuperNova explosion. If and when a Supernova occurs, you can see the light, from Earth and in the correct hemisphere, during the day and night times.

It is possible that Lavos may have simulated something similar so that the life on the planet can see where its destroyer is coming from...

What about the possibility of explosive propulsion? For example, let's assume that Lavos is either A) not the first of it's kind or B) this is not the first planet Lavos has conquered and destroyed.

If that's true, is it possible that Lavos annhilated another world, and in the end the world more or less "self detonates" (Or, even, Lavos causes it to explode entirely), thereby creating propulsion? It would give some possibility to any heat surrounding Lavos; the force of a super nova would be considered massive, and, if Lavos' shell could sustain it through it, perhaps the heat would also remain constant (I'm not an expert in regards to science, or anything for that matter, so I'm purely guessing)? If it's shell can protect it from such a massive explosion as a planet exploding and giving it the propulsion needed to land on another to continue it's cycle of consumption and reproduction, it would be able to protect it from the impact of landing on the planet.

Also, in regards to PD-1, perhaps it can't create it initially, but almost as soon as it's underground and has tasted and absorbed a bit of the planet's nutrients, it has enough energy to create the pocket dimension? This is assuming Lavos creates it (I can't seem to remember if it was created or simply an occurence or what) and not that it is some kind of alternate phenomenon.

Also, in regards to CyberSarkany's comment, it's also possible that Lavos' impact is exagerated, much like the characters' sprites. Even if Lavos were the equivilant of a 1-pixel or 4-pixel meteor, at the rate of travel, it would still be able to sufficiently create a large crater of impact. The only thing that boggles my mind is how Tyrano Lair got pushed underground instead of being annhilated.
