Recommended SNES RPGs

I agree w/those Genesis/Mega Drive recommendations...

The Shining Force games are great for those who are interested, but perhaps intimidated by SRPGs like FFTactics or even the Fire Emblem games...But it's a lot like the Fire Emblem series gameplay-wise...There were also a few Shining Force games for the Game Gear which were equally good.

The Phantasy Star series is like a combination of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest/Warrior...It's got story, but you're gonna need to be okay w/leveling your ass up. PS2-4 are Genesis/Mega Drive games and they're all pretty good, but I think most people agree that 4 is the best of the series...But, if you want to follow the story from the start (which I don't think is completely necessary), then you need to pull that hardcore RPGamer from deep down inside yourself and play Phantasy Star for Sega's Master System...Stay away from Phantasy Star Online unless you like MMOs or something...It looks pretty...I'll give it that...

Oh? From the first few that I played I thought they were more or less the same story-wise (not that the stories were the same, but the same in terms of content)...I never really expect much story-wise from oldschool SRPGs though (and certainly not much from the character development end of things)...It's mostly about the gameplay back then...

yeah SF 1 is really part of a big series  that inclueded the saturn ones most of the others have been spin-offs the SF1 (real SF story) or just unrelated games of the same style.
SF1 simply lacks character development and story due to the era the asturn ones expand alot on it. otherwise know as SF3.
SF2 was just a spin-off SF1 its story got overwritten by SF3 that was in development since SF1

trying new tings and going in new diections is always nice but yeah i miss the FF9 type setting

I'm fairly sure that Namco X Capcom doesn't have a fan translation yet (I don't even know if anyone's attempted it yet)...But you might want to check out ROMHacking.net (formerly the Whirlpool)...They've normally got the scoop for translation patches and news...
