Star Ocean Till The End of Time
« on: July 19, 2006, 09:11:07 am »
Wow, a rare find (for me anyway) in this desolate, RPG-lacking UK of mine.

So, what's everyone think? I thought it was good enough, except the story, which gets terrible on disc 2.

its story is good even in disc 2 some ppl like it some dont its al down to your personal opinion
the battle system was very nice but was annoying in ways (low mp chars getting killed in 1 mp damage boss commbo) but that didnt matter so much once you got to teh moon base
FMVs and VAs were pretty decent.
in terms of difficulty over all it was avarage and some fights could be chalanging depending on what party you used

If you use the Side Kick trick, then all enemies are screwed :D

And...The Moon Base song rules!!!

side kick is overated when bosses become fast enough that they can get you while your doing it or just after you finish doing it it becomes useless and later bosses and enimes are bigger and have aoe hits.

fayts best anti air move is alot better

SO3 is a great game. A lot of people say that this certain twist in the story on disc 2 sucked, but I liked it. My only complaints are that the music blows some times, and it is a DAMN hard game. On the second disc mostly. I couldn't go through a battle without using all of or almost all of my healing items. And any I had leftover I used after the battle to recuperate.

Just use the Side Kick combo. I forget what its called, but it saves your ass.

As for the music being annoying at times, I agree. The rap-style boss music (it's called 'Bitter Dance') pisses me off like hell.

I love the final boss theme, Highbrow, and the battle theme, The Cutting Edge of Notion, though. :D

How creepy, I was just talking about SO3 with Exodus last night.

I personally adore the game -- it's quite possibly one of my most favorite games, right up there with Terranigma and Tales of Phantasia. I loved the plot twist in Disk 2, although that's probably because I didn't have it spoiled for me. Most people seem disgusted with the twist because they'd heard about it long before they encountered the game. Compared to the graphics of the RPGs I'm usually glued to, the visuals are amazing, and although the music isn't the greatest of any game I've ever played (the Final Fantasy and Chrono series take the cake there), it's enough to keep me entertained while kicking arse and taking names.

I fell in love with the star ocean series when I first played Star Ocean 2.  Star Ocean 3 is very good.  It can be hard and tedious but thats what I like.  I still would like to see a fight between Deus from SO2 and Fayt.  What a fight!

I just finished the game a week or so ago. I didn't mind the plot twist or the story (seeing them jump out of a big TV screen was a bit of a shock!), but the battle system and graphics took a little adjusting. My only real complaint is that private actions are underplayed compared to previous Star Ocean games and the ending sequences weren't as interesting as they could have been.

Gameplay features like item creation, bonus post-game dungeons, and a fast-paced battle system really make this game great, although the story isn't all that bad either. Sure the game comes with a bit of a learning curve, but that's a reasonable price to pay in order to make the gameplay more interesting than building levels and buying better equipment. For example, MP kills and MP death really caught me off guard at first, but then I started using MP kills as a powerful strategy in certain fights. It also took me forever to figure out that the tactical skill Berserk effectively doubles your Fury, making cancel bonuses more useful.

I'm not a big fan of pressure sensitive buttons though, especially when they're used for separate actions instead of two step actions. The real problem is that there's just not enough tactile difference between light and hard touches on the PS2 controller. I can't list the number of poor bastards I accidentally killed in Metal Gear Solid 3 because of that.

Anyway, all that's left now is to finish up Sphere 211, but I'm putting that on hold until I've finished Valkyrie Profile.

Reserved two Augusts ago, played it for 2 months, did not understand item creation at all, decided to quit right around the part where you're intelligently going to enlist in a dragon's help against a starship that nuked like everything. Wasn't bad, besides the extremely feminine designs of some of the male leads.

The item creation isn't really that difficult, its simple after a little practice.

Well, nothing I seemed to make worked, and when shit did happen, it was not the thing I was trying to make. On top of that, I was losing money like crazy. Eff that...though the vs. mode is pretty fun >_>.

You should save before creating items - theres an inn beside that place anyway.
