It's set to the tune of the Forest Maze BGM called "Beware The Forest Mushrooms" in the OST.
Here is the original version, whose maker is unknown.

That was....wow. I am at a true loss of words. I guess "weird" will suffice. I love all things Mario. Nothing brings back memories of childhood better for me. In fact, I'm gonna go play Super Mario World right now. I have a SNES hooked up in my living room for just such occassions.
...And I've said this before and I'll say it again - but I would be seriously surprised if Super Mario was not envisioned while under the influence of some sort of psychedelic mushroom. It's just too coincidental - the faces on inanimate objects, the trippy and colorful world - and perhaps the final straw:
The prevalance of the red and white Amanita muscaria "fairy-tale" mushroom used in the games that Mario frequently munches on, which contains a cocktail of psychotropic chemicals:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscariaSuper Mario is even mentioned in the article which suprises me
. Here's an excerpt from the part about uses in Popular Culture:
This observation is thought to have formed the basis of the effects of eating the mushroom in the 1865 popular story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Garden ornaments, and children's picture books depicting gnomes and fairies, such as the Smurfs, very often show fly agarics used as seats, or homes. Two of the most famous uses of the mushroom are in the video game series Super Mario Bros., and the dancing mushroom sequence in the 1940 Disney film Fantasia.
That's right, I am a veritable encyclopedia for all things chemical/botanical/indigineous. But sadly, not for all things Mario
