You can't possibly think this is okay. Examine the situation. There were plenty of times parents cheered for the students, but only these five students had thier diplomas held from them, and they are all minorities, while the other parents that cheered were all white. That alone strikes a chord with me.

The other part is the simple fact that they were cheering for their children because their children graduated, which is never a certainty. Furthermore, what right does the school have to punish the children for the acts of their parents, especially by witholding a diploma?!

This is supposed to be a joyous time, besides, this could lead to students using it on other students. Think about it, if some kid you hated was coming up on stage and your school enforced that rule, you and your friends could begin to cheer for them, and WHAM! There goes their diploma.

I guess you guys have never had this experience. This is not racism, nor were the minorities targeted. In my school and at others, I have personally watched people do this. And certain people were more inclined to do it than others. One cannot play the race card on truth. The note about others' cheering is probably fiction. This kind of idiocy hampered my graduation, so I'm glad schools are taking a strong arm policy. Even the ACLU said it was okay.

We had an awards ceremony for the school drama club and when everyone cheered for me, we couldn't hear the kid's name that won. It wasn't me.

We whole take on that issue is that it just happens. Deal with it. If they signed a form saying that their diplomas would be withheld if their families cheered, it's their fault.

I never liked cheering during graduation. It makes you feel less important if your not the most popular, or have the most people there. I didn't like it when people would cheer more for some and not others. It makes you feel insignificant, when everyone should feel equal, because everyone is graduating. Your a class, not just an individual.

Oh, please. It's all about punishing the children for the acts of the parents. Hell, it's possible that the parents of some other kids who didn't like the parents of the kids that were up on stage cheered intentionally trying to ensure this was enacted.

I don't care what kind of idiotic reasoning they pull, nor do I care if the ACLU agrees with it. You do not withhold someone's diploma because their parents cheered for them when they went up on stage for their bloody graduation...that is just absurd and it insults everything they did to earn that diploma. It's like me losing my driver's license because my dad crashed the van while driving me to King Sooper's!
