I was playing through CT again recently and payed more attention to Ayla this time. I never really noticed how interesting of a character she was until now. Sure, she's an amazing ally in combat but her personality is intriguing, too. Sure, she's not the most intelligent being ever, but c'mon she's from the stone age. What's interesting is her grasp on life. Her dialogue is often rather insightful, like the converstaion with the elder of Laruba. Her relationship with Kino also provides some inspiring dialogue.

Ayla is definitely the most underappreciated CT character.  Sure she may exist for comic relief, however, remember that it was HER that named Lavos.  I'd go into gameplay here, but I went over that in the other forum.  As a character, though, she can be strong. -CSM

I don't think it was just her. La and Vos probably comes fro her native language or whatever. Otherwise, she just made it up, and yet said "La mean Big, Vos mean Fire in Ayla's Language". Quite clearly, we understand her, so we speak her language to, but La Vos, we do not. So it has to belong to her tribes people too. The name wouldn't just pass down because of one person, especially if it was her own made up language / word.

Yea I agree Ayla is the most underappeciated CT character... She is very wise for somone who lived in prehistoric times... I think she made mor sense than any other charater in CT..... Except maybe Gaspar!!

I really feel that quote is just to "rive up" either the player or the Laruba tribe.  Although she says similar stuff when going to defeat Lavos (and that's all she really ever says there).

Although where Ayla's wisdom REALLY shines is when she talks of the Reptites.  I could hint in Ayla that she believed that fate (no not Fate, the destiny Fate.  You know, the Fate that's not supposed to be in uppercase) chose the Reptites to to be the dominant species (as evidenced in Chrono Cross), and that was where she got her attitude from. -CSM

How closely related were humans of Ayla's time in comparison to Crono's?  Are her people the unevolved "monkeys" mentioned in Chrono Cross?

There can be 2 possible sorts of "unevolved monkeys" mentioned in CC. "Apes" when mentioned by the Dragonians is just a slang for "Humans", we know it because Azala in CT used the same term when s/he spoke to Ayla or Crono's party.

The other "unevolved monkeys" in CC are said to have a brain 3 times smaller than a modern human brain. It logically refers to a more primitive human species (like Homo Habilis or Australopithecus) and not to Ayla's or Crono's species.

I spent many years not having a favorite character. Then I slowly began to realize it was Ayla. I wrote about it briefly in he favorite CT character poll, but to make a long story short, this thread is well-taken.

She's my favorite, actually, but I think I missed out on a little bit of character development because she was always in my party.

A lot of what she says is very intelligent/thoughtful, but just in broken words.

Is it possible that Gaia's Navel is from Ayla's time? I just read an article about the Dead Sea, and it talked about places being transported.. like the city of reptiles, for instance. It would kind of explain why the Navel is so hard to reach, because the article talked about how the Dead Sea had to not interfere with the timeline. Everyone knows the Dead Sea is there, but it still barely changes anything.

Aren't all of the monsters there also very prehistoric?

Oh, and another thing about Ayla:

She represents humanity before it was corrupted by Lavos, as explained in Chrono Cross. The "pure" human, so to speak.  It struck me as I was playing with her in my party once.

Ayla shows that humans naturally have good intentions, one could say.

Ayla is definetly an awesome character.
It's just to bad that most people don't use her in there party because she's from the stone age.

I used her in my party when I replayed the game to see how she would react to the plot. She is quite smart. She relised that the reptite castle had been buried underground.
She relised that Lavos had the DNA of all creatures, even though she didn't say DNA you did know what she meant.
For someone from the stone age to realise stuff like that is amazing.
Most people from the Stone Age would probably freak out if you took them through a gate!!!

I didn't like her because you had to use her for her charming ability.
