Is there possibly a relation between Starky and Nu?
« on: August 11, 2006, 02:12:32 pm »
Is it possible that Starky's race is a further-evolved Nu race?

The thought entered my head when I was browsing the site and came across Starky's Official Art, which I went ahead and put here.

While I was looking at him, his face and body shape seemed familiar. I thought I had seen him elsewhere. Then I thought about Nu. Nu's eyes/mouth/nose are proportionally in the same places as Starky's. Also, Starky's arms are quite long for his overall height. So are Nu's.

In the Chrono Compendium's page on Starky's purpose for being on the planet, the text for an ending involving Starky and another member of his race involves the pair saying, "Noona-Noona...!!! Nani-Nani...!!!" If I remember correctly, one of the Nu's in Zeal made a "Nu! Nu!" sound. Also, the Compendium's Starky page has a quote from Starky (not sure where from in the game) that has him saying,
Starky:
   Woowzer!
   Out of this world...!
The liight of the big baang!
   All starts from heere and
   all ends heere...

   What liies beeyond that...?

The "all starts from heere and all ends heere" line strongly echoes the book in Zeal that states, "All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu... This is my belief... at least for now!" Also, Starky's little blue thing on his suit resembles a pendant to me, though this may be because of the shadow of his helmet. And we all know how big a part pendants played in Zeal and the Chrono games in general.
I'm not saying that Starky is a Nu, or that the Nu's necessarily evolved into Starky's race. But it makes sense to me that if Nu's were already very highly advanced/evolved creatures in 12,000 BC (and they even existed in 65,000,000 BC, but I am unsure as to how advanced of a species they were at that time), then they would be probably be quite capable of space travel shortly afterward. I know the popular opinion is that Nu's evolved into Beach Bums, but perhaps some left in a ship, sometime between 12,000 BC and AD 1020 (maybe in 7600 BC? Using technology and/or knowledge from Chronopolis?), and the space travel/being on a different planet changed the direction of their evolution.
I realize that this is a lot lot lot of speculation. And it may well turn out that it has no merit whatsoever. Just thought I'd share. Feel free to shoot me down or provide some discussion.   :)

No, it doesn't. And turn off caps lock. See, the reason it doesn't make sense is that you're making vague, unrelated correlations. So they're blue, so what? One has hair and the other doesn't. One has a torso and the other doesn't. One's from space and the other seems to be some sort of...nature spirit. Furthermore, Starky is talking about the Big Bang being the end all and be all. That has no relation to the Nu.

Everything else is just bullshit assumptions.

Even if it's just two vaguely similar designs, it's good to see that Toriyama's style still persists in CC. The visual styles of the 2 games are closer to each other than one could think at first sight.

Oh and you don't have to apologize Radley. Quite a few theories on this website "make perfect sense" for some people yet "are a pack of bs" for other people.

Yes; half the time the analysis "regulars" are stopping threads cold early on, and the other half of the time they're spamming endless worthless crap over several pages.

Nonsense, that's a good post.  Speculation is fun, and your observation has merit, as there are some similarities.  Alas, it seems that not everyone on this site is friendly.

Furthermore, besides the artistic similarities, your observation on what Starky says before you fight the Devourer of Time IS like what is said of the Nu in CT.  Since the Big Bang is beginning of time, and time begins and ends with Nu, perhaps there is some connection there.  If you figure in the artistic *similarities* between Nu and Starky, you have something interesting to ponder.

Please feel free to speculate your more, as you're cool.

It actually makes more sense theoretically than the Beach Bum-Nu corellation.  I've made up some weird theories before that were laughed at and not really thought about.  I'm sure that a casual Chrono community would shrug this off just because there's a CC enemy resembling a Nu and not look to the fact that Starky's an extraterrestrial.

Then again, you could probably say something similar about another extraterrestrial who we all know and love (hate?), Lavos itself. -CSM

The Starky-Nu relationship is based only on circumstancial evidence. Aura-senpai has a point, you're basing your assumption on appearance alone. Although Starky's line is almost similar to the Guru's words it doesn't mean that they're related. And as for the Beach-bums, its just a mere coincidence that they have similar looks to Nus. I mean, animals has a tendancy to mimic other animals so that they don't get killed by predators.

There's nothing wrong with that.  After all, this is speculation, as the original poster said, and he should be treated with kindness.

Regardless, what's interesting is a possible connection with the Nu, the Big Bang, and the origins/end of life/universe.  And  Starky. Also, similarities in character design and speech are very relevant in literature and other art forms.

Yeah, I think it's good that somone has noticed a resemblace between all of these things.

It's at least interesting to read.

I think the post was good.
Also if any Nu left the planet it would probably be to get away from Queen Zeal. God I hate her. Anyway, I should stop talking abut how much I hate Queen Zeal.

I really DON'T think that Beach Bums look like Nu at ALL... but whatever, call me crazy.
Your observations may or may not have some merit, Radley Bradley...most of it does seem to be a vague connections, but looking into it is better than writing it off as bullshit like AuraTwilight did.

They kind of make you think it in Viper Manor with the Beach Bum who changes your name. (Did it call itself a Nu? I can't remeber.)
