Then again, the US (well, most countries for that matter, but I wouldn't watch a Law & Order: Uganda either) has a pretty bullshit law system where detectives and police can bend the law to get evidence or anything for that matter on the edge of being illegal.
Other stupid laws are things like how if you go to rob someones house, and you fall off the roof due to a loose tile, you can sue them. Or in a more horrific case, McConnel versus R 1977 NSWLR 714, where three men kicked, beat, and stabbed a man, and thinking they had killed him threw him in the river. The dude wasn't dead, however, and he died for drowing. The three men were found of not having the intention to kill, so weren't charged with murder.
Now doesn't that suck?
