I've just returned to Timber after defeating the fake president. So far, FF8 has been like sinking my teeth into a rich dessert. Everything seems polished and beautiful at this point, like reading exquisite imagery in a Keats poem. I'm hooked on learning more about the history of this world. Apparently, Galbadia is the empire. The characters aren't as blisteringly unique as FF7's this far, but they're still alluring. I'm definitely interested in Squall's past, since something major can only cause that kind of reservation and withdraw from society. The dance sequence was humorous; he did pretty well at some points. I can't say I like the faculty at the Gardens; they appear too shifty.
I at first dismissed Seifer as a bastard, but the romantic dream thing makes me think that there's more to him than meets the eye. Perhaps something happened to him to make him abrasive and flippant like that. Selphie is somewhat annoying, I guess, but now I'm glad she's on the ride. Quistis is a complex and curious character; she seems ripe for serious development, and I'll enjoy witnessing it. And Zell? What can I say; the guy rules in the same way that Karsh from Chrono Cross does. It's so refreshing to have someone gifted with the passion of youth on this adventure. Karsh and Zell both know that action speaks louder than words and aren't afraid to commit to an adventure at a moment's notice. The dude is bottled lightning, and he really charges the game. Every time he pumps his fists, it's like YEAH!
Other than that, the music is interesting. It's more subtle and atmospheric (without degenerating into unmemorable ambience). I know I'm in store for greater themes to come.
Oh, and my card deck is huge now. I have the Quistis and Diablo cards, and like a bunch of other high tech ones. I'm honestly seeking a challenge at this point.
