Isn't that scene optional? And I said AMID~! AMID!!! :)

It's not optional. It happens every time...  :D
:lee:

Freya is a pretty deep character. Ugly as hell though. So is that other dude, the one whose name starts with A and is a thief...who knows. But Kuja, now THERE is a villain. Very similar to Sephiroth though.

Amaranth is more like a mercenary than a thief & his obsession to become stronger.   I also agree that Freya can kick Ozma's butt to the next dimension.

There just wasn't enough character development in that game. :(

I still like it though. It's kinda cool with all the references to the older games.

Yeah, Final Fantasy IX is... not exactly the best effort Squeenix has put out there, although I do applaud their heralds to their previous games. I figured they had matured from their superdeformed, underdeveloped characters after playing VIII, but it just seems to me they had one last attack of stupidity before X and XII.

Amarant? No he wasn't...they tried too hard to try and make him mysterious while completely forgetting the fact that even mysterious people need to be, like, developed somewhat and stuff...I agree that Freya kicked butt...but they could have delved further into her...by the end of the game I still felt like I had hardly heard a word from her besides her lil quote about how being forgotten is worse than death...
Amarant was kinda developed....He was like a bounty hunter and wanted to fight people stronger than him...Plus in Treno there was that optional scene where Amarant and Freya delved into their pasts.

Uh...wtf? FFIX had some of the MOST developed characters (yeah, I'm excepting Zidane, but who cares?)! Like...in the WHOLE franchise! I mean, c'mon...VIVI people! Vivi was awesome! And saying that FFVIII had more development than IX is a friggin slap in the face...Irvine actually managed to be less developed than Amarant (hell, he was practically only as developed as Umaro)...I mean, besides the fact that everyone grew up together as kids, you barely get to know the cast of VIII...in IX, you get a whole colorful assortment of characters who all have different, distinct personalities. This is further exemplified by the fact that they all have unique abilities (a pure trait long lost in the mist of FFs since, well, FFIV! that's FIVE games prior!). I'm not bashing VIII in any way, heck, I like VIII just as much as IX, just for different reasons (kind of like how I like CC & CT)...VIII has a great storyline (I really enjoyed the Laguna parts and what they led up to) and IX had great characters.

So yeah! :?

Quina, Quina has no development what so ever. Hell, you don't even know if Quina is a he or she! And don't forget Necron, what the fuck was up with him?

But Beatrix rocks none the less, and that's why I still play it.

Quina was the humorous character that every RPG needs, and was kinda developed. I mean, he/she got plenty of screentime and got to talk much sense:

"There are two things in world. Things you can eat and things you no can eat."

Sheer genius!  :D

Oh, and yeah, Beatrix is freakin' awesome. Stock Break!!!  :D

Shock Break reduce your HP to 1! Its inevitable to lose 3 times.

Well, I see it this way - Since Beatrix uses Stock Break even if you reduce her HP to 0, I consider it a win if I finish her off first. Regardless of what she does, it would still count as me defeating her.

Just because you may not like a character (or a character's development), that doesn't mean they don't have any. I still stand by the fact that the Quina & Vivi marriage was one of the funniest moments in FF history (right up there w/Spoony Bard & a couple Kefka lines, maybe)...^_^

I agree it was funny, but still, too many characters too little development, kinda like the assassin in Fossil Roo.

Meh, I'm talking main cast, main party...I don't recall any memorable villains outside of the two witches (and even then only Edea) in FFVIII...I think that most FFs don't tend to go down that Chrono path for some reason...Mostly...Maybe it's just been a while for me...?

Kuja was... quite developed. I mean, he kept talking about how he'd rather die taking the universe with him, and therefore

[SPOILER]

tries to destroy the Crystal, the source of all life.
