About a new Chrono game...
« on: September 18, 2006, 10:21:43 pm »
A petition  to get a new game is great...but theres not really any reward for SquareEnix.  So I was thinking, what if like we could get Bill Gates and his foundation to donate about $20 million (wiki says it takes about $15 millon) so they could create the game without losing any money whether it sells good or not.   And um...so next I thought we could email Stephen Colbert and tell him about it, I know he's read emails on his show before, plus he does have the fake Stephen and Melinda Gates Foundation.  So then Bill Gates hears about it and since he's pretty rich it will barely effect him and he can just say it was for fun, kind of a joke, since he normally only donates money to needy people.  So any thoughts on this? (I don't care if you flame me since this is my first post anyway.)

I don't think you understand the purpose of the Gates Foundation. Games are less important than medical research, and there is a whole industry supporting them anyway. Using charity money to make video games would be wastefull.

No doubt just down right foolish.

I also don't want the new Chrono game on a 360 . . .

Me too. I would rather they make it on a PS2. it would be cheaper.

Uh, what are you talking about? If the game is good, they are rewarded w/teh moneys. Not to mention it would completely rejuvinate interest in the series. Make it (a good Chrono sequal), and they (RPGers) will come.

Yeah, but Square might be scared of screwing up. I mean, it isn't guaranteed a success (to them, anyway). And they're also kinda busy using Final Fantasy as their money-reeler right now... -_-,

If it's a guarenteed success, or if it doesn't matter if it does badly or not, they might not put enough effort into it. They should have a little fear in them about it, so as to inspire them to make it great.

SquareEnix is more concentrated on Final Fantasy cuz it makes the most money of course.  So in the company's mind Chrono Cross didn't make anywhere as near as much as FF so even if they make another sequel it still won't make as much money as just concentrating on a new FF would.  The thing about a donation would be that they are "forced" to use the money to make a new Chrono and so they get money from the sales plus the extra 5 million from the donation.  It's kinda like a win-win.

It would be wasteful but then again it's not like ALL of Gates' money is going to go to charity purposes.  The Gates Foundation was just an example basically cuz he has the most money and 20mil would be nothing to them.  And then I was thinking getting the Foundation to donate is using starpower too.  Like now George Clooney is demanding the UN to do more for Darfur.  And sure a new game isn't anything political.  But word of Chrono could be spread on the news and media and then SquareEnix could maybe think that they could make even more money off it.........And yes, sure this all seems kinda stupid....

The reason Darfur is a better use of attention and aid is not that it is more "political", it's that millions of people are dying and displaced, and millions more have already been murdered. The scope of the tragedy in Darfur and the your (and my, and everyone else here's) desire to see a new Chrono game are incomparable.

Games are a buisness. Charity is wasted on them. Consider, any dollar that goes toward this game while the situation in Darfur happens is a dollar that could have gone to help there. Same with any other crisis currently occuring. Absence of a sequel in a particular game franchise will never be a crisis.

I guess that's the problem of charity. I'd rather donate to United States scientific advancement than keep a starving child in Bombay alive for two extra weeks, I guess. Sounds harsh, doesn't it?

lets just face it that right now, nobody upstairs are realy interested with chrono........and even if they do, they's not gonna spend some money to extend it......maybe in the future when were all old they may begin on a new sequel, but thats a long shot........i really think they should have chosen chrono rather than final fantasy as their ace game on rpg....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm what a waste.......

Personally, I think that money should go to video games. Why? Because all we are using science nowadays is creating new drugs for made up diseases and biological agents.

Yes, fictional diseases such as cancer and and AIDS, that certainly aren't killing millions of people a year. What a waste of money and effort. Better that it should go toward fictional stories in toys, so that the hypocondriacs can have something to distract themselves from that mole that seems to keep growing.

Ideally, there'd be enough money to go around. For my part, I would tend to prefer my money going to the more long term solutions, such as disease research and such. Whether it is done in the United States or India, the whole world will some day benefit. Although if too many children are left to starve, there won't be much of a humanity left to help.

The day that they find a cure for AIDS, I'll donate my body to science. Cancer can be cured, and we have had breakthroughs, but no virus, like AIDS can be cured.

I'd also like to say that what I said was unjust. It's just annoying to have a doctor tell you that a simple thing like the flu can be taken care of. Instead, I have to sufer day and night for a week and hope that I can finally get to sleep and get back up on my school work.

No, I'm not saying I have it bad, people with AIDS have it worse, but I'm trying to make a point about viri(?)

I also say we move this to General Discussion. That way, we can go back on topic for what alarmclock wanted.

It may not be curable, but it can be eradicated. I'm not speaking of killing carriers off, but rather containing and reverting its spread. The carriers, like all humans, will die eventually, and if the virus isn't spread it will soon fall out of the system. Of course, a vial of it will probably be kept at the CDC...

But anyhow, as long as people all over the world rampantly engage in unprotected sex, AIDS is here to stay.
