Chrono Rae
« on: September 25, 2006, 08:37:43 pm »
Hello everyone!
You may or may not remem, or you may not have seen it, but theres an obsure little project out there called Chrono Rae... Back when this was first announced, I was very paranoid about SE giving a C&D order, and so I went so far as to make it clear that nobody was watching the topic. That was stupid. So far all we (publicly) have to show for our work is a forum topic, a small reference on the newspage, and a dead recruting site. Time to end stupidity, neh? So... I'm watching this, and so are the other Devteam members if they want to. I'll answer some questions you ask, but not all.

Pre Answered:

What is CR: A trilogy of Chrono Trigger fangames.
Features you'll probably be interested in: Full 3D is what we are trying for. FMV's WILL be in CR 3d or no.
Magic System: No. CR will be using the Theory System, which will be explained in its current rudimentary form further in the topic.
RPG Type: Not like CT or CC.
Does CC exist in CR: No. When I first came up with the main concept of CR, I had no idea that CC existed. They will never, ever, be able to work with each other.
Well, why not: In CR the true Lavoid Race is made from crystalised spacetime, and have the power of gods. Lavos, was the highest ranking humanoid Lavoid in existance. Lavos' kind was a subrace of those who had been temted by the Lavoid Power, under this universe, Queen Zeal was on the verge of becoming one right before the CT cast destroy her. Thats why.

Have anything to ask? Fine. Post away, I'll answer when I can.

First question: Work on the game instead of trying to constantly showing what you have (which is "ideas", i.e. nothing). This isn't really going to be attracting people. Wait, that's not a question.... oh, well.

First off, let me say this is one of the coolest names I've heard for a fan game. Second off, do you have any screens, or plot and character info?

@Chrono'99: We have far more than "Ideas". Really. Character concepts are being worked on, We have a musical composer, were just missing several crucial positions, such as coders, texture artists,  etc. COncept art may be released soon, its just that now, quite a bit of stuff is still in the very first stages.

@DarkEpoch7: Really? Thanks. Screens? No, sorry, unless you count some really, really, weird ones of a red haired Magus walking on on a screwed up map from when I was doing a magus-centric game solo. That, um, did not influence CR in any way. Plot Info? In spades. What do you want to know, post that, and I'll have an answer out quickly. Character Info? Again, spades. Again, tell me what you want to know: Main, Minor, Shadowy Figures that don't particularly matter in game one, but matter alot in two and three that I cant say much about lest I spoil detail of games two and three, Military, Civilian, Bhidjian, Colorless, Lavoid???

I said I would write about the Theory System that CR will use. Here it is.

From the very beginning of the game, your character can use ALL of their "Magic" techniques, unless they are plot relevant. Physical techniques must be learned. The twist of this is, there is a probability that the technique will fail. While the character can use any of their techniques, only the most rudimentary are automatically on "Law" status. Theories must be proven to be correct before they can be used. Theories can be proven in or out of battle. If a Theory is proven in battle, the attack that it activates will be 10x more powerful than every future usage. T.O. is a currency used in game for improving the probability of proving Theories. If you pay the full T.O. Cost of a Theory, it is guarunteed to be proven into a Law. Faliure to prove a theory bars you from ever being able to use it again. Laws cost nothing to use, but may only be used a set amount of times, plus two specials. The first special, "Overdrive" executes the Law twice as powerfully as normal, the second, "Lawbreaker" executes the law 25x more powerfully than normal.  The penalty of "Overdrive" is not being able to use the theory for the following three battles, "Lawbreaker's" penalty is not ever being able to use the Law again, period.

This sounds interesting, when will you be able to show some screenshots or some more plot info?
If you use Lawbreaker will you be able to use that Law again after a set period of time?

Screenshots? The way things are goine, we wont have screenshots for a while yet. Again: we are missing a great deal of critical positions. Plot info? Sure, I'll post on that soon.

Sorry for taking so long with the story info, It will be ready tomorrow. Honestly. Oh, and by the way, one of the 3D engine we are looking at is Jet3D in case anyone wants to know. Why J3d? It's open source, free, and has a couple of decent features.

This sounds interesting, but no offense but that asshole comment up there was kinda bad =/  Since all you can see nowadays is ideas, there's not much that can be done until it's fully ready.

No. Chrono Rae is a project that must, without a shadow of a doubt, be in 3d if the full scale of the story is to be translated into a game. However, this is most likely not how it will turn out. It all depends on what happens in the next few months, really. If things go right CR will gain several new members very soon, and we wont just be a four person project anymore.

I'll say this though, I'm dedicated to this project untill the end, be it good or bitter. Let me tell you somthing: When I said bitter, I did not mean cancelling it. No. I will make sure that Chrono Rae is produced, even if I have to do all of it by myself. But, I'm not worried about that. Our concept artist, Probablee, and our audio specialists, Kirizzle and RussN Are hands down awesome people. They deserve it. Where others showed doubt, they took a leap of faith. Without them, CR would still just be a vague collection of ideas.

The story ideas... I'm late. Again. Here they are.

Welcome to the world of Kamikaze(Divine Wind). Ruled by Neocopora, the only source of food and a military without a purpose, it's a utopia for those who just follow the system. But all is not well, and those who would question the paradise have formed a powerful resistance. There is only one problem: the collective may be strong, but there never was a collective, and because of that, it is only too easy for the resistance to be destroyed by overwhelming force. The sun will now set for the first time in a thousand years, and the leaders of the two most powerful forces will clash in a tournament that neither cared to enter. But this is only a side drama, for the military has suceeded in crating Flawed Chaos, the most powerful weapon in the known multiverse, and now, they're destroying the resistance cells, one by one. And even that, is a side drama. Because in the most recent detonation, an threat was unleashed, held behind our reality, they have waited and watched, and now, the Malignant Paranoia have returned.

Game Names:
Chrono Rae: The Paranoia Phoenix
Chrono Rae: Zero or One
Chrono Rae: The Chaos Law

Just what in the seven hells are Paranoia???

The original species of Kamikaze. The planet Kamikaze humans live on and the one they live on is the same, but seperated by a dimensional lock, recently, however, the lock has been slipping, humans merged with Paranoia have any number of pschological symptoms, and so the military started a genocide. On their side, the Paranoia are having the same problems, but are trying to help the afflicted rather than hurt them. The Malignants... are easily deduced, and I wont tell you.
