Trigger & FF7
« on: September 30, 2006, 04:00:15 pm »
Can someone tell me why everybody seems to love FF7 and Trigger so much?  Also why does everyone think their soundtracks were great?  I hated the Trigger music but thought Cross' music was the best in any game.  And I'm not trying to cause controversy, I'm just wondering.  Is it beacuse I didn't play those games right when they came out?  Do they just seem old and outdated to people that only played them lately?

I liked FF7's music because most of it had a rock/metal style. I enjoy that genre, so maybe that's why.

FFVII came out at a fundamentally huge time for RPGs and Squaresoft. The fact that it was a more mature and complex storyline also helped to gain it favor...and Tifa's boobies. I played it when it came out and I still don't really like it that much, myself...As for the music...I like Sephiroth's Theme, but not the crappy MIDI version in the game...same w/Aeris' Theme, only slightly less so...

Trigger was a testament to the RPGs of old. It was a monument to cliché and it managed to pull it off in just the right way at just the right time. The soundtrack IS great...I personally like it more than CC because it offers more variety...But, of course, MUSIC IS EXTREMELY BIASED! I think remixes of the Trigger tunes more than compete w/those of Cross for starters though...

I, personally, don't care much at all for Final Fantasy VII -- then again, it also wasn't the first RPG I ever played; those honors would be granted to the very loosely-defined genre-wise Harvest Moon. It could be for a variety of reasons -- the fact that 3D games don't do much for me, the fact that the ending was pretty much a "That's it?" experience, or the simple fact that having to deal with Aerith's incessant whining, even through just one disk, was about to make me batshit insane at the time. (It still does now, actually, just to a lesser extent.)

But, yeah. Tifa's rack was gold.

The direction of both games is probably the single most important reason why each is so widely loved. Individual opinions vary, but both CT and FFVII have excellent gameplay that offers entertainment, interaction, immersion, and provokes thought and imagination. Each game has well-paced, expressive action that speaks to modern values and human instincts alike, via compelling characters to whom we can personally relate, who live out tight plotlines that tackle big ideas and evocative problems in colorful ways, all framed with rich music and ingenious graphics that provide both an aural and visual dimension to the overall experience, allowing for further ways of appreciating it. There is room for disagreement, but there is a strong quantitative arguement that both games are masterpieces.

As for the music itself, there's no shame in having a minority opinion.
