Crono talks ending
« on: June 15, 2004, 08:24:47 pm »
Well, having seen this ending numerous times, I just thought that I should talk about it, as it is my favorite ending.
Given that I'm tired of having people say that Crono never talks, even though he does, even besides this ending, I'd just like to let everyone know that there is such an ending whereupon Crono speaks. Just letting you know. In case anyone wanted to know how to get it, watch Schala use her pendant on the door in Zeal palace, and then drop everything, and go fight Lavos, be it through the bucket, or through the right telepod at the fair grounds if you are playing New Game Plus.
Alright, now that the formalities are done with, I would just like to state that this is my favorite ending ever, although I wonder why he didn't say something else. I'm often left to wonder if there were a purpose to Square making Crono's moment of viewable speech so comical. I mean, perhaps they could have made it a romantic moment with Marle, or perhaps a moment during the final goodbyes, where all the characters would remark at the fact that Crono talked. Honestly, it may seem stupid for me to ponder this, but pondering why a developer chose to do something is just as much an analysis as speaking about an in-game development. Anyway, it's just food for thought.

Yes, I just saw that ending an hour ago lol.  Well it is technically the hardest ending to get because there is such a short interval between the ending before it...and the ending before it.  you get "what the prophet seeks..." before you see schala open the door and after you use the Mammon Machine, so yea.  I think that is why Square made Crono talk in this ending, like an award for being so thorough.  Just a side note: Crono does 'talk' just like how you never see your companions talk amongst themselves at the EoT or while they are walking on the world map, do you honestly think that they just remain quiet the whole time?

Oh, of course Crono talks, it's just that there is never any visible text to represent that, he just answers questions, and then through the other person's reply you get a firm understanding of what Crono's answer was. Plus, sometimes you can say yes or no, and that counts as talking as well. All "silent" protagonists talk, it's just not so obvious. Personally, I feel that this makes the game more of a ROLE Playing Game. Plus, I love the fact that in this ending you get to see just how judgemental Lucca really is when she throws away some of that false modesty!

haha yes :) .  "I feel that this makes the game more of a ROLE Playing Game."  yes, thats the point. like it says in the CC manual, serge is the silent protagonist who represents the persona of the player.  crono is the same way, so his silence should not be given some sort of meaning.

Oh, wait...I think it's the regular English translation where Atma talks about Alpha & Omega...Or wait, doesn't he? Oh well...Uh, aren't Alpha & Omega the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet or something?

That was pretty interesting. But dropping a battle ship on me is cheating. Take it back.

That was an interesting bit of quoting. Reminds me that I really do need to get around to playing Xenogears.

I was just thinking about the "silent protagonist" in CT/CC the other day. I couldn't decide whether I liked the idea or not. I don't feel that through their silence that I become more "involved" with the game, but that's just my shake.

Yes.  Yes you do.  Everyone that enjoys playing good RPGs must play Xenogears.

If Xenogears is so good, then how come so many FFVII fanboys like it?

'good' on who's scale? Put it somewhere on mine for me...

bad/stupid/boring---------------middleground---------------RPG heaven!
FFVII/FFII--------------FFV/SD2/DQ/CC-------------CT/FFVI/FFT/LaL

Okay, maybe I went overboard...WHUHTEVA!!
