Chrono Trigger: Revelations
« on: October 27, 2006, 04:45:46 am »
This is my ROM hack for Chrono Trigger, and since this is a first for me ever it may not be as good as I want it to be. I'm using Temporal Flux 2.0 to do this, and so far it's been alright sine I'm getting the hang of things. Anyway, back to the ideas I wanted to kick around...

If you beat Lavos in the end of the original, watch the white screen before everything fades. You see a black sillhouette of the heroes, right? You also see the silhouette of Lavos' left bit. This is where the story will originate from.

Five years have passed since the defeat of Lavos took place. Five years for everyone to gain a more peaceable and normal sense of time and of themselves. Chrono and company returned to their respective times to continue in their lives as they had gone to do before. But something was not right...

Every night for the past five years Chrono has had nitemares. Nitemares of a place cold, dark, and lonely... where not even death could reach him. He felt like his soul had been copied... trapped by a source of evil. Lavos' hideous laugh always echoed throughout. What were the meanings behind these visions?

Was Lavos really gone, or had part of him survived?

In this new game, the first addition to the team would be, instead of Robo, Magus. Once I figure how to edit their sprites, I'll be giving each character a new look. The additions would go: Magus, Glenn, Robo, Ayla (considering Marle and Lucca are already there, of course.) The Chrono Trigger would return, of course, but the Trigger would be used for Magus instead of Chrono and would be used in a side quest, a story that I have not finalized yet. In adition to fighting Lavos, there would also be a cloned team of your party to fight. These clones would appear before the second form Lavos fight (in the shell as you're walking) as well as with the third form Lavos (replacing the left and right bits). The cloned team would be the same level as your highest player, and would be capable of using learned Techs and Magic against you. So if you were fighting with Chrono, Glenn (Frog), and Robo, the cloned party could use Luminaire, Cure, and Shock against you.

These are just ideas right now, but it would kick some serious ass if I could get them to work. Oh, also you would meet an old "friend" in Heckran Cave... Dalton and his GolemBoss.

Many of the things you want to do would be very hard. Enemy levels are set in the game and cannot be chnged ingame. You'd have to create an enemy for every possible level. Enemy AI cannot use what techs your characters have as a precondition, so there's no good way to make them only use those techs. You'd also have to hack enemy attacks to incorporate the techs.

On another note, I saw your thread about rom music at romhacking.net.

should help you.

Very hard, but not impossible.

Thanks for the link for the music stuff.

Luminare  and cure is already set because of the red Nu (Salt).  You could rename that tech to Cure.  or you can use an entire new one.  Up to you.  Shock hmm....I'm not exactly sure about that one.  Maybe use lightning from the heavens.  Or skygate (or w/e the one that zeal uses) as another one.  I've tested around with this alot but i'm not sure.  You can easily create enemy clone parties.  I've done it a multitude of times.  You just need to use Crono Tweaker to do it.  It's quite difficult at first but gets tons easier later on.

Where do I get Chrono Tweaker? I've looked all over this site and everywhere else and I can't seem to find it.

Chrono Trigger Editing Companion is a better choice for an editor, other than the sprite related makeup data editor thingy. Don't use the AI pointer editor part of Chrono Tweaker, it's borked right now. I do plan on updating it, or integrating a few features into Chrono Trigger Editing Companion from Chrono Tweaker. I'm pretty sure I have permission to do that, I just a few things I need to do first.

Yea, i did realize that the enemy ai was messed up.  But I messed with it a bit and somehow I had Marle doing a double tech on her own, which was quite funny.  if only i still had the save-state or the movie.
