I asked my brother for an example of a really good piece of Rock music that I could find on youtube, and this is what he came up with.

Pretty neat, I must say. Actually, I'm going to be seeing them in a few weeks. And, with any luck, Joe Perry will stop by the guitar shop my brother works at.

Actually, there's some newer Rock that can be good. Say, for example, these guys, who had some good songs. They're trying for all the world to be an 80s band, eh?

Pretty good, eh? Unfortuately, their newer stuff isn't as good.

Of course in the 80s there was always Malmsteen...

Okay, I know they're cheesy lyrics, but I like them. 'From the gates of heaven, to the altars of hell, the power is at my command...' There is artistry in those words, I think.
Or, for just his plain instrumental skill...

Heck no. The Who were the forefathers of punk, while the Led Zeppelin were the forefathers of boredom.

no actually, Led Zeppelin were the forefathers of Metal, they were at the top, of the first wave of metal, along with CREAM, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and others.

and acording to this: http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/the_greatest/62188/episode_wildcard.jhtml?wildcard=/shows/dynamic/includes/wildcards/the_greatest/hardrock_list_full.jhtml&event_id=862769&start=81 Led Zeppelin is better then The Who, putting Zeppelin at #1, and The Who at #8.

Hey! I like Tom Petty!
And so do I, but they play to god damn much of him. like WAY to much.

That list is the worst list ever. I've seen it before, and laughed before, but thank you for giving me a few more chuckles. Hardly any of those bands are hard rock (if you are really picky), and the Clash and Jimi Hendrix definetely aren't, not to mention a few others. And then go on to 40-21. Those really don't seem like hard rock to me, more metal and grunge. It seems more like a "best artist list" than a "best hard rock artists". If you don't put Led Zeppelin on top of a hard rock list, you basically just forfeited all respect from metalheads and stoners. Oh, and the entire music industry. And what the fuck, so what if VH1 has that, I don't.

Black Sabbath was the forefathers of metal. So what if Achilles Last Stand was metal; so was Helter Skelter.

Yeah, Black Sabbath are the original metalheads. But I'll be damned if Stairway to Heaven doesn't make me want to puke when I hear it. I can't stand that song and most their other work, half of the reason being Robert Plant's vocals.

Stairway does have good lyrics, though.

No, seriously, it's solid poetry, and is a perfect compliment to the melody. I'd say similar things about other songs, too, such as Dream On. Very well constructed lyrics.

And that's the song I won the kareoke contest with. :D

god, i'm tired of stairway, i used to listen to that like 4 times a day, now i listen to it once a month.

and black sabbath may be the original metalheads, but led zeppelin influenced it the most, just listen to their first album, and some 80's hair bands and stuff, like the "c'mon feel the noise" solo of quiet riot, sounds like the "good times bad times" solo, here's a comparison(but it doesn't have the quiet riot one): http://youtube.com/watch?v=eDeUTtYMxCw

led zeppelin's first album maybe their hardest and heaviest, and this was even BEFORE black sabbaths first album was released.
and watch and listen here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vPVuSmysIZA and you CAN'T disagree with some metal heads them self, like dee and sabastaian (i can't spell)  and actually WATCH ALL OF IT

and here's some more information, there are 2 types of mainstream metal, the one that zeppelin created, the good times one, which is like van halen and such, and the darker more heavier one sabbath created.

I hate good times rock. The kind you can dance to. In other words Rock n' Roll.

you can't dance to most zeppelin songs, only like "dance'n days" and "trampled underfoot", and god you sure just dissed alot of rock bands right there, like buddy holly, chuck berry and so on.

There is an awful lot of rock "you can dance to." Doowop, northern rock, psychedelic, fast blues, synth rock, rockabilly, and on, and on. Still, I can see what you mean; stuff like "I LIKE THAT OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL" that just seems horrible or outdated.

At any rate, if you're going to condemn music you can dance to, you'd better declare what type of rock you're subsequently endorsing so you don't look like an antisocial retard. It's easy to construe "I hate feel good rock and roll" to mean that you like listening to "Corpulent Shitflesh" and "The Christpunchers" and things in that vein. But even so, death metal lovers at least have better taste in music over Metallica fans.

Metallica used to be good.

And I don't hate music you can dance to because you can dance to it. I just don't like the whole Rock n' Roll sound.

Well, for my part, I like some later Metallica stuff. Heck, one of the first CDs I ever got was Metallica's S&M album, where they play with the symphony. People say 'oh, their early stuff is the best', but personally, I tend to prefer the stuff they did later. Not that I listen to it much as it is, but that's my opinion.

I like Metallica, they used to be my most favorite band, and one time I didn't listen to rock at all, and that was just 3 years ago! But a movie came out that changed me forever. School of Rock. Yea, good movie, that's the first time (that I can remmeber) hearing a Led Zeppelin, when the Immigrant Song was playing, it was like nothing I have ever heard before.
