Spyware
« on: January 25, 2007, 02:15:10 pm »
Apparently, spyware has somehow crept its way into my computer. Thing is, I know nothing about these things. So, I ask for any advice or help you can provide on how to get rid of it.

Look for a program called Spybot on Google. It should remove most spy and adware that might be on your pc.

I use Ad-Aware SE. I'm pretty sure it gets rid of both adware and spyware. You'd have to check though.

Posting from my Wii!

You can get spyware from just about anything nowdays.

I use Spybot and Ad-aware together. They're both free.

Bore the spyware to death by running a lot of golf simulations. Unless it's golf spyware, in which case you're screwed. Buy a new computer.

You can always run lots of emo mp3 also, and make them spywares flee miserably from your Hemo Computer.

Love the Zelda quote.

Heh, now there's a virus on my computer, and it freezes before I can open any programs. This sucks. >_> I have to post from the Wii now.

Just use WinXP's system restoration feature. Select a restoration point which you are sure was before your pc got screwed, and after you restore to said point scan your pc with avg or something.

Sounds like a good idea, thanks.

Also, today, I managed to delete the two viruses on my computer. There doesn't seem to be any more, but the effects of a previous virus are still active, i.e. freezing after a few minutes. Any ideas on how this is happening?

how many scanning programs do you have? try to use a couple as using only one might not find them all.

that and get a better firewall >_>

You might manually check your system configuration utility to see what exactly is loading automatically when you start the computer. In additional, all the usual maintenance routines are in order...scandisk, defrag, blah blah blah.
