The freezing thing could also not be WinXP at all but either your RAM or mobo itself... Depending on what you mean by freezing.

I used to have an old HP that would randomly freeze up entirely--shit out, as it were. Turned out to be a faulty motherboard.

Dunno how the hell he did it, but my dad's friend fixed the computer today, and cleared all threats, it seems. I'll be able to use it again later today.
