Should I play Radical Dreamers before playing Chrono Cross?

No. Chrono Cross is a completely different game, though many of the themes and characters used in Radical Dreamers evolved into use in Chrono Cross. Radical Dreamers is also not canon and thus nothing from it can actually be used for any real analysis purpose other than speculation.

On the other hand, it is a neat little game, so choose what you will. Just remember that it's not actually important to the Chrono series and nothing said within it should be taken as canon.

It's a pretty fun game on it's own, but if you're wondering if you should play it and if it will help make clear the story of Chrono Cross in any way (such as CT), then no, you don't have to play it.

It gives a VERY interesting alternate story of the beginning though, with many similarities.
