I'm considering starting a Folding@Home team for the Compendium. I took a look at their work so far and thought it was pretty interesting. If you want to join, reply here, and if I get a good response I'll create a Chrono Compendium team page and register.

I'm teetering between a Skynet joke and a HAL joke.

But in all seriousness, I think this sounds like a good idea, personally. Consider me signed up.

I'll probably add a user group for members who join the team, with a special title for the top contributors.

So do we have specific usernames we need to use for it, or do we simply join the team with whatever username we decide to use?

Use whatever Folding@Home username you like, and if you want to get started now, don't bother with a team. I'll put up a site on the Compendium with a registered team number later, where you can also add your forum account and your Folding@Home username to the officially published list of "Chrono Compendium Folding@Home team members."

Ah, yes, now that I'm running the application I see how it works. Understood, then. I've already gotten started. Hopefully we'll get a lot of people on here involved in this...I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to.

That is the only reason I am very hesitant to join.

I was running it for a while, but it crashed a bit more than I liked. I hear that they have a client that is GPU accelerated now. Do you need a PCI-X card for that, or can we old fashioned AGP types use it?

Any particular reason either of you think there's a significant risk of getting infected with something?

This could be a trick and you are trying to get our home address and rape us in our sleep.

It's Stanford University, ladies and gentlemen, one of the best universities in the United States. There's no worry of any sort of infection in one's computer. I ought to know: I've got more security on my powerful baby than Fort Freaking Knox and it hasn't been shown to be evil. It's safe, and can run on most any computer, which is how it was designed.

I'd love to join. I've heard of this before, although I thought it was PS3-only.

If someone would just explain to me what exactly would happen if I join, or what I would be required to do if I joined I may change my mind about the whole thing. I just want some reassurance I guess.

Ok, I'll install it, or download it or whatever tomorrow.
