Did anyone notice we just recently passed 66666 posts? I'm not superstisious, but it is still quite a large number of posts.

A large number indeed. It seems you've had a lot of thoughts to exchange among eachother. When square released Chrono Trigger I bet they never thought it would hit big 10-12 years later and have a large number of dedicated fans.

Square-Enix is a multi-million(possibly billion) dollar corporation. (And definitely multi-billion yen corporation). It's not like it's just a group of game developers who decide this and that...you've got a board of directors making business decisions, a CEO, and all the lovely stuff that comes with a huge corporation. In other words, they don't listen to the fans because of what they are.

This is why I tend to prefer smaller gaming studios that don't make too much money, because they usually tend to produce higher quality games and listen to the fans of their games.

And who makes games profitable? Fans. They aren't neglecting their fans. They're neglecting a portion of the fan base that they believe is small enough to not be profitable. We disagree with that assesment, but it isn't our call.

As a big aside, viewing this Youtube piece sure brings back memories. These are unused scenes from Command & Conquer, enlarged and presented from their normal place in the corner of the credits screen. It must have been fun for Westwood to crank out that one ingenious game and single-handedly revolutionize the RTS genre. They must have had such fun in Las Vegas in 1995. A cyberpunk influence is so obvious in the first sequence, and the White House Oval Office is easily recognized as computer-generated -- but not the "almost real" sense. The "yeah, it's fake" look is nostalgic.

Anyway, at the end of that film is an excerpt of the Nod victory theme, "Destructible Times" by I AM, the alternative rock / metal group Klepacki formed in 1994-1995. It's an awesome song.

...why wouldn't it be? What, game creators should all create games for nothing? That's not how society works. Humans need some form of compensation for any activity they perform, or at least on the whole they do. That's why communism doesn't work in large socities. (It can work on a much smaller leve, say a tiny town.) Besides, how would the game creators be able to afford to create these games anyway?

Are there plenty of free games out there? Sure. I can name one nice place with lots of RPGs produced by random people with a free, DOS based RPG construction engine. Are any of these games any good? A few, but on the whole most are not. You need quality people in order to produce quality games, and nine times out of ten, that takes money. There are exceptions, to be sure, such as Chrono Crisis, but those are exceptions, and rare ones at that.

Depends on the genre and personal taste. I was speaking specifically of RPGs, as since this forum is based around an RPG, I thought them most relevant.

I think this has come up before, but I did one of the small voice parts in Crazy Cross. I was in the music club with one of the guys on that team.
