Sakaguchi: "Blue Dragon is an extension of Chrono Trigger"
« on: April 29, 2007, 03:02:04 pm »
Quote from: Hironobu Sakaguchi
When creating Blue Dragon, Dragon Quest wasn't on my mind. I was actually thinking about Chrono Trigger and Blue Dragon is an extension of that game.

Personally, I think his vision of Chrono Trigger is a bit limited... Then again, he said "Chrono Trigger", not "Chrono".

Actually, Blue Dragon reminds me of Chrono Trigger. It may be a different game in terms of plot and all that shadow crap, but when you look at the graphical style it really is very Chrono Trigger.

Blue Dragon better be the best game ever, or I'm gonna kick Akira Toriyamas ass for not putting time into any Chrono stuff and just putting out bullshit.

I think it looks like a cool new game and all, but the only resemblance it bears to Chrono Trigger is Akira Toriyama's artwork and that obvious Crono-ripoff hero on the cover.

What about dragons, huh? Besides the major part they play in Chrono Cross, there's also dragon statues all over Magus's lair and the Guardia logo looks like a dragon.

have you watched Dragon ball z?

Crono=Goku
Lucca=Bulma
Ayla=Andriod 18
Frog=Captian Gynu as a toad
Magus=Vegeta(just the face)

I kind of thought of Magus more like Piccolo than Vegeta, myself...

...mm, Piccolo...

No Ayla = Launch from Dragon ball (shes Tien's Girlfriend I think)

Well I still have mixed feelings, I don't feel like purchasing a 360 just for this either (I'm waiting for the new chipsets on the system to come out) but I would love to play it just to get a feel for it. The music doesn't really have me thrilled either, but hey Nobuo has to experiment I guess.

I just got in the most recent EGM which didn't really praise it too much with scores from the editors of 6.5, 7.5, and 6.5. GameInformer gave it a 9 out of 10 however. So it's probably just one of those you rent and then you decide to buy it or not.

Anyone read over the translated script of Blue Dragon yet? I personally found the script to be very lacking in character development and story, although there is quite a bit of humor throughout. The soundtrack is great, though.
