New Japanese blog mention
« on: May 06, 2007, 12:15:13 am »
Last time this happened was in 2005, when someone picked up abg's Lavos vs. JENOVA remix at the Compendium (specifically, the version with the full JENOVA ending he did for us; still hugely thankful for that).

http://nitouhei.blog42.fc2.com/blog-entry-464.html

From Google Translator, it seems he's surprised that Chrono Trigger's popularity is huge even in America. He's intrigued by the Retranslation. He praises the site as being pretty complete, and he's pretty impressed that we have the Japanese Doujin section and mention Zephyr-Cradle. Although...

Investigation heart of the people of the foreign country, it is the thinking where the head goes down in enthusiasm.

Since it involves the Retranslation, I'll forward it to KWhazit.

Very nice indeed...and I sure hope that translated quote does not mean what it seems to imply...hopefully that's a translation glitch, because otherwise he was using a somewhat impolite metaphor, though not necessarily one that is incorrect given just how enthusiastic we can be about Chrono Trigger, especially the Retranslation.

What does it mean? It's too broken Engrish for me to understand. In any case, Nifty is supposedly a better translation tool, and here's what it says instead:

Um...basically? I interpreted "head go down in enthusiasm" as a metaphor for oral sex. Perhaps that is just the perview of a perverted mind.

There you go...a much better translation, which makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Oral sex? Sir, I submit you need to go get laid. Come back when your head is ready to go down in enthusiasm.

KWhazit went ahead and translated it out of curiosity:

[title]Chrono Compendium[/title]

Today's tune.
Collaborative works tend not to betray expectations.
From [link:http://www.zirconstudios.com/]Zircon Studios[/link]'s
[link:http://www.zirconstudios.com/vgremixes.php]VG Remixes[/link]

[image: Link holding Triforce] When All Hope Has Faded

It's
an[link:http://blog.fc2.com/tag/アレンジ]arrangement[/link]
of "The Day The World Revived" from the famous music collection of Chrono
Trigger.
The remixers are zircon and friend Tyler Heath.
It has an electronica feel with a bit of orchestral flavor.
From the first half, reproducing the original melody's lonesome feeling,
it completely reverses once it passes about 2:00.
The way it's made lets the music have a story.

☆What's Chrono Compendium?☆
Even overseas, Chrono's popularity is deeply rooted,
Things similar to private fansites exist.
One of those is a site called [link:http://www.chronocompendium.com/]Chrono
Compendium[/link].

The contents are quite substantial, with many things worth seeing.
Poor at English though I am, I could look with deep interest at
something called a
[link:http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Retranslation.html]Retranslation[/link].
It's a project to replace the overseas version lines with the Japanese
version and translate that into English.
Hearing about it from the outside, the task smacks of filling in dug holes,
but it's rather enjoyable to try looking at.

Also, you can't mention Chrono without the music.
Through a link in Music called Japanese Doujins,
they introduce Japanese fan groups.
Starting with 5-4 Takepod, Azu, EtlanZ,
many Japanese arrangers are introduced.
Even the name of Daijin's site, which is linked to from this blog.

I can't help but admire the inquiring minds and enthusiasm of people
overseas.

Today's video.

[flash animation: low-level party vs. Lavos, part 1]

[flash animation: low-level party vs. Lavos, part 2]

Crushing Lavos at low levels (parts 1 and 2).
Dropping like flies and coming back to life, hectic battle [lol]

-------------------------------------

At first I thought the 'filling dug holes' line meant it sounded
pointless, but it's probably more like 'repetitive and tedious'.
English name used for track name rather than a straight translation, and
doujin names taken directly from the mentioned links page.
Daijin's site, mentioned in the entry, is Zephyr Cradle.
The 'w' at the end is one of many Japanese 'emoticons'. This one is short
for 笑う (warau: smile/laugh).
And the video clips linked are almost disturbing. You know it's a
low-level game when the level 16 Robo in the final boss battle looks
overwhelmingly tough compared to the rest of the party (and he still can
only survive a few of the weakest attacks)... Crono has a surprisingly high
damage potential at level 1, though.

I remember playing a low-level game, I was just never able to attack Lavos(2nd battle) before he could use his doom-laser...I also used a different start & strategies.
And I know it has nothing to do with this, just wanted to say something at all.

Found a big image board thread where Japanese fans are discussing Temporal Flux and CT ROM hacking:

Retranslation news post on some guy's blog: http://blog.goo.ne.jp/dekubar/m/200601/1

I like his blog's general caption: "Overconfident fodder to put some plants"
