My grades...
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:58:03 pm »
Hello everybody, this is Lavo here, and I would like to ask a few questions. First off, we all know the end of the school yea is rapidly approaching, and most freshman around this time would be whooping with joy after a long year, but me, I'm screaming aloud because of the end. ou see, I'm a man full of selfish pride, and a gigantic ego, and for the first time in my entire life, I think I'm going to fail a grade. I'd sooner rot than that to happen. I don't know what I've been doing wrong. Could any of you offer some friendly advice, before it's too late?

If there's nothing obvious that you can do, then either you were lazy and are paying the consequences or you tried and you were just too stupid to grasp the material as presented.

They key to riding the line is to understand the grading system used by all of your teachers, and how each and every test and assignment affects that system. Then you know what strategies to employ, not just in taking tests or doing assignments, but also in deciding which instructors to build a rapport with and how to go about negotiating things if you have to.

If you want to save yourself, KNOW exactly where you stand and calculate all the possible outcomes based on the remaining tests and assignments. If you can't pass even doing perfect on the remaining material, go back and look at what the three biggest assignments or tests that are hurting your grade in that class are, review the material, and prepare for some negotiating. Knowing how much extra you need to pass and push for a bit more than that, because chances are you suck at negotiating and you'll get less than you ask for.

If you can't figure out all of the math very easily, then you're really in trouble. I suggest just going to whoever is in charge of the course you might fail and talk with them in private.

do what ramsus said. but instead just talking to your teacher. also talk to them about stuff you know they would like. sweet talk them or such. then they will relize that your a great kid.(or thats what you should make them think). and make it as easy as possible for you to pass. kiss ass is a powerfull weopon in america these days.

Don't even try to kiss ass, unless you're really sociable and good at it. I never had to, so I never really tried, but it wouldn't have worked even if I had. For one thing, my attitude is too nonchalant and my manner and body language too abrupt. If I don't respect someone, it'll show through too easily.

However, teachers usually still go out of their way to help me, especially female teachers. It's one of those strange paradox things where men deal with me and think I'm an asshole, but respect my directness, and women deal with me and think I'm really a nice person. Besides that, I have an earnest interest in learning most things, which makes a real difference in how people perceive your motives.

So know yourself before trying to act out of character, and know the teacher too.

The best solution though is to make sure you're on top of your assignments and test preparation at all times. Then you never have to worry about your grades (or math, or social engineering...).

Lord J used to have that problem also, until he showered himself in highly volatile cosmic particles which were supposed to make him intelligent. Unfortunatelly, as a side-effect (or as Divine Punishment, some speculate), he was turned into a tomato.  :?

Did you mean you can type just fine when you take more time than that post does (whatever that means) or did you mean you can type just fine, and then that post [insert hidden action here]?

Also, typos does not need an apostrophe. We are not talking about a typo possessing something, but multiple typos.

Anyway, vocabulary does nothing without spelling and grammar, and your words don't do anything if not properly presented.

Lavodox, I suggest speaking with your teachers to find out exactly where you are struggling, why, and do what you can to fix it. Work with them, not against them.

Chronopolis, you'll gain more respect if you make typing well with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation a habit...it's one of those little things people tend to notice about others. People will be more likely to listen to you if you take the time to ensure what you say sounds as good as possible.

What difference does it make if you're in high school? If anything, it should be easier to get to know your teachers and work with them on things like grade issues.

Are you particularly attractive?  This may be part of the reason.

Also, yes, I can tell when men are attractive.  Final Fantasy VII sapped out about 30% of my heterosexuality.
