It's the characters. Either that or some of us still fantasize about Ayla bathing in a marsh with a Megasaurus...     UH YEAHANYWAYS...   Characters, yes. Now, Final Fantasy characters have personalities, sure, especially in the new stuff. But the diversity with Chrono Trigger takes liberties RPG's generally shouldn't.

On the other hand, it could be the people who made it. They seemed to understand before the game was even finished that, as the old rhyme goes:

"If you took all the lumberjacks in the world and made them into one,
What a great lumberjack he would be!
If you took all the axes in the world and made them into one,
What a great axe it would be!
If you took all the trees in the world and made them into one,
What a great tree it would be!
If you took all the oceans in the world and made them into one,
What a great ocean it would be!
And if the great lumberjack took the great axe, and chopped down the great tree, and it fell in the great ocean,
What a great SPLASH-SPLASH it would be!"

This being why they called the group the dream team.

I think the Light of Judgment is more than equal to, say, Destruction Rains From the Heavens, or at least Shadow Doom Blaze...But then again, as with most "Vs Kefka" things go, it all depends on whether or not you're allowing him the Light of Judgement via the Three Statues...Lavos would easily pwn anything else though...and then fuck up whoever's world he just beat...

he compeletely drained them of their magic. it wasnt done using the waring triad as some sort of gun. therefore we are allowing it.

Uh...I don't think so...because he uses the statues in the final battle. He drains the Espers of their magic, I know...but where do you get that he drains the statues?

This is the easiest question to answer ever asked. Seriously! The game takes saving the world to epic proportions. you travle through space and time to stop a being that has had an influence on the lives of the inhabitants on the planet fromdestroing the planet. The series breeaks boundries that no other game has broken Final Fantasy 7 dosen't even come close to the depth of the series goes into. other RPG heroes don't go aginst a godly figure (People of Zeal treated Lavos like a god) and they did not have to travel to a dimension to where ther're dead or screw around with time. Many defentally speak, but then their friends can't put words in his mouth which is actually fun to do (who wouldn't enjoy doing that) so Chrono series beats other games hands down. Just like this site dose! 8)

Every BoF hero had to go against a godly figure. Star Ocean also messes with time a lot as did the first Final Fantasy, of course...

once you kill the waring triad it says something along the lines of "The Statues were drained of their power. Cefca has become the source (god) of magic" right before you go fight him.

Final Fantasy Legend did the "God is uncool, let's go kill him" gimmick way before Breath of Fire (and Xenogears). Also dimensional hopping was the basis of Final Fantasy Legend II. Both games still sucked though, for some reason.

i hate xenogears, the lead guy gets a gundam and a hot gf. he needs to die in a fire. i perfer characters who dont have every-fucking-thing good about life and go " i feel like going on a dangerous adventure."

Maybe it's just clichés done right? Especially in Trigger's case...

This is a complete misrepresentation of Xenogears. I don't want to talk about story details, for the sake of people who haven't played it, but to those people I say: Play Xenogears.

its about the only great story of our lifetime that wasnt butchered!
think about it, star wars was a great story, then came episode 1 and 2
mario was great (and still is in a way) but has his face slapped on a series of shitty games
final fantasy's up to like, what, XIII now? shieet
chrono trigger had a sequal, which wasnt entirely a sequal
and it was a great game, and will live on to be great because square decided not to make chrono trigger XIV or chrono trigger: soccer madness

..that and many other reasons im sure everyone mentioned
