There's the Black Dragon at Marbule (skip the Zelbess sidequest), the Dragon Tank at Water Dragon Isle (skip the Breath for Mt. Pyre), the Criosphynx at...one of the Earth Dragon Isles, and Ozzie / Slash / Flea at the Bend of Time on a New Game +. Oh, and you can run from the fight with Polly on the S.S. Invincible I think, and maybe Fargo too.

You mean do the Zelbess sidequest, right? If you don't do it, then you don't fight the black dragon.

Actually, those are both required battles. You might be thinking the Man-of-War fight before them, which is optional.

There's also Harle at Hermit's Hideaway, before you face Fargo.

the Dragon Tank at Water Dragon Isle (skip the Breath for Mt. Pyre)

You mean the Hi Ho Tank, right? Just to clarify.

Also, I guess the Hydra in Home World Hydra marshes is optional. (You can choose not to do the Save Kid quest.) Of course, it's necessary to get all the characters.

I thought the dragon rider was in Fort Dragonia. I'm pretty sure. I guess he's an optional boss, never felt much like a boss to me though.

Is there a Dragon Rider on Water Dragon Isle? If so, how do you fight him? I swear I've never a dragon rider there...

Just in case anybody reads this thread for actual information and gets very confused:

1) There is no Dragon Tank or Dwarf Tank. The boss at water Dragon Isle is the Hi Ho Tank. You don't have to fight it if you don't want the Ice Breath for Mount Pyre. Not getting it isn't really recomended.

2) Dragon Rider is one of Karsh's techs. The enemy I was thinking of is a Dragoon, who is, in fact, mounted on a dragon. He appears in a sideroom in Fort Dragonia. I don't remember if it's an actual starred boss battle--he's only moderately tough--but it is listed as a boss in the encyclopedia. Anyway, he's definately optional, and you don't gain much by fighting him.

Note: Later on in Fort Dragonia, there are weaker versions of this guy walking about as regular enemies.

Slight correction: The boss version of the Dragoon enemy appears if you skip the Water Dragon Isle/Ice Breath quest. He appears in the very first room of Fort Dragonia, and you can't skip him. Also, he drops FrogPrince after the battle.

As for the normal versions, there should be one in a side room of the blue area in Fort Dragonia. The only other one should appear on your way to Bunyip.
