If there were to be a new Chrono game...
« on: June 02, 2007, 08:19:57 pm »
What would you like to see in it?

I would love to see some voice acting. This is a horrible list, but...

Crono- I think Joshua Seth maybe... (Voice of Young Knives from Trigun, Tai from Digimon)
Marle- I looked and looked, and the only voice I thought could possibly work was Kate Higgins (Sakura from Naruto)
Lucca- Rachel Leigh Cook (worst on this list I think, but the voice of Tifa)
Robo- Anthony Daniels, hands down. (C-3PO. Who else?)
Glenn- Absolutely no clue whatsoever. Help?
Ayla- again, no clue.
Magus- Billy Zane, possible Steve Blum (who were Ansem from KHI and Vincent Valentine, respectively)
Schala- Mandy Moore (Aerith, Kingdom Hearts 1 (KHII had a different actress, and she sucked)
Zeal- Pat Carroll (voice of Ursula. Sorry, but I hear that damn laugh, and I think Queen Zeal every time...)

Actually, I think that Michael Wincott would be far, far superiour for Magus. He has probably one of the coolest voices in all of acting. He's... well, he's the prophet of Truth in Halo II; Guy of Gisbourne in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves; the man in black in the Three Musketeers; etc.
Just listen to this voice:

THAT'S MAGUS! THAT IS MAGUS! YES!

Perfect voice, Daniel. Absolutely perfect. He just needs some more malice and emotion, and he'll have it made.

As for the others...to be honest, I would actually like Lucien Dodge for Frog and Robo from that Chrono Cross Audio Drama. He is a wonderful voice actor and has a wide range, and he's probably the only one who could make a voice that sounds like a Frog, as he did for the audio drama, albiet unintentionally.

For Queen Zeal, you need someone who sounds quite different from Pat Carrol, wonderful voice though that may be. To roll with the theme of vaguely English sounding accents with Magus' voice actor, let's go for someone who has a romantic English accented voice--for those who watch Stargate: SG-1, think Sarah, the women who was eventually possessed by Osiris as an example--who can also go dangerously insane and angry.

A similiar voice for Schala, except with more subdued tones for the most part, unless she's speaking passionately about something, such as when she asks Crono and friends to stop her mother.

For Crono, you want something away from the horrible English dubbed anime voices and closer to something like....well, I can't think of an actual person, but for Crono I see a voice that is generally happy-sounding, but also quite strong. Lioncourt from the Audio Drama was good, but that voice made Crono seem a lot older. Perhaps something like that, but younger, more fitting his teenager status.

For Marle, we want something that can simulatenously sound like your average teenager and a royal Princess, though usually the former. Unfortunately, no ideas come to mind.

Lucca is definitely not going to be voiced by Mandy Moore if I have anything to say about it. She needs a voice that sounds like the female singer from the Takerocker's Chrono audio doujin. If that means bringing in a Japanese women who is also fluent in English, so be it.

Ayla now...I have no idea, I'm sorry.

The problem is that the animation was originally created for another language. People are shown with their speaking animation for only so long, and dubbing companies don't take the time to alter the animations--though it would be a simple process, easily as simple as adding the digital underwear to some scenes they enjoy doing as a method of censorship.

As such, people are forced to alter their English speaking to match the length of time that would be used to say the same line in Japanese. The same thing was done by Yuna's voice actress in Final Fantasy X...she lip-synched to the Japanese version instead of waiting for the English version of the various animations to lip-synch to, hence why Yuna would always go around with ridiculously quick "Yes" and other words, and why sometimes she would stretch things out in a ridiculous manner.

How do I know all this? I briefly voice acted for a fandub of .hack//Roots on the Voice Acting Alliance board. I was voice acting for an old man character...I was only featured in the first episode before I left the project due to personal reasons. I was forced to lip-synch to the Japanese version as well, since we could not possibly change the animation at all, unlike how a dubbing company could do so.

In any case, since the animations would be lip-synched to the English voices, there is no worry of a Yuna-like performance.

Actually I mean......hmm......I don't watch many animes so I can't really give an example. The best I can give is Ash from pokemon's new voice. Or Mimi from Digimon.

If you are referring to quality of voice as opposed to speaking patterns, then I agree with you...the voices need to be of excellent quality, not the subpar crap that dubbing companies churn out.

But if you are referring to dialogue and speaking patterns...that is not the fault of the voice actor or actress, but the script from which they are reading.

Crispin Freeman for Flea. :D ...I mean it.

Samuel L. Jackson for Slash.

And someone Scottish for Ozzie. Because he needs a Scottish accent.

Is that a snippet from The Count of Monte Crist? Excellent movie. Not a very Magus-y role, but I think he might have the voice for it neverthless.

This may sound kinda silly...

I've thought that they should make a game that has similar gameplay without the Chrono name.  You'd play through the game and it may have time travel and such but nothing obviously related to the Chrono games.  You'd fight the evil mastermind and his creation as the last bosses.  After the credits, the not-so-dead creation leaves your planet...then crashes on Tyrano Lair.

Probably been thought of before.

Personally I think that Slash would do well with the same VA as Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist. That gad an excellent dub IMO.

And Kyronea, you're a .hack fan? :D

Huh? Where'd you get that from?

And to answer your question: no. I'm not a big fan of MMOs in real life, let alone a televised version.

You said that you did a fandub of .hack//Roots.

That's a shame. Doesn't anyone here have good taste in anime?  :|

Though a little late to the party, this is quite true. I actually prefer to watch all anime subtitled, that way I can enjoy the usually more proper voices for the characters while getting a more faithful script to the entire show or series. Plus the fact that it is easier to get underground anime and just released anime subtitled or fansubbed long before it ever comes to the states.

That's a shame. Doesn't anyone here have good taste in anime?  :|

I'd like to say I have good tastes in anime. I usually avoid mainstream anime and stick to those less heard of if I can however.
