Press Release Thread (outdated)
« on: June 05, 2007, 12:08:50 pm »
Okay, we know we're going to be releasing the demo in a couple of days at most, so obviously we need to have this press release ready.

First, we need to lay down exactly what we need to tell the readers. Obviously, we should inform them of the differences in the dialogue and the updated and changed monster capabilities as well as altered EXP, Gold, Tech Points, and that sort of thing gained. We also should point out--obviously--what has not been changed, as well as where specifically the demo ends.

So, how do we want to lay it out, specifically? Do we just want to write a bulleted list of the expected changes?

Let me get back to you on this.

If you read my post on the TF Exports thread, you know what's up. I am compiling everything down to one ROM.

Things I don't think I will get to:

King Guardia cut 600AF
Frog King Scenes

Guardia Prison (item lose thing)

other that those things, I may ACTUALLY get this done soon *cough* tonight/tommarow *cough*... I am pretty much spending every waking moment today on finishing this.

Gotcha. I'll go ahead and write up a first draft of sorts for the Press Release.

Well, it's short and sweet, but I think it covers all that needs to be said for the Public Demo.

Chrono Trigger +

Press Release for Public Demo 1.0
June 11th, 2007

Chrono Trigger + is all about expanding and enriching Chrono Trigger, to turn it into an even greater gaming experience. Remember how you used to blaze through Chrono Trigger, how easy it was? Remember the corny translations of Frog's dialogue, or how lines were muddled or otherwise destroyed in translation thanks to Ted Woolsey not having the time he truly needed?

Not anymore. Chrono Trigger + offers a great many changes:

1. Complete and total revision of all game text, from top to bottom, rectifying translation differences, speaking habits, and generally improving every scene, as well as adding plenty of new and entertaining info--such as rewriting the date system from B.C./A.D. to B.G.(Before Guardia) and A.F. (After Foundation)--, and even some information based on Chrono Compendium theories!

--As of Public Demo 1.0, only storyline-related dialogue has been revised. NPC dialogue, unless part of the story, remains unchanged. Dialogue only proceeds to the scene in 65,000,000 A.F. after Magus' Castle, at which point the default dialogue from the original translation resumes.

2. Many changes to gameplay mechanics, from new equipment and new required story pointers--such as being required to speak to Toma about the Cathedral before being able to pick up Leene's pin--to new techs and a completely redone Tech Point, EXP, and Gold received from every monster, as well as changed monster stats to make every fight more challenging.

--As of Public Demo 1.0, a large number of changes have yet to take place, though the changes to the goodies receieved as well as monster stats are in place, as well as a few redone story pointers.

3. New musical scores taken from Radical Dreamers, the Chrono Trigger prerelease, and, as always, the infamous Singing Mountain and Battle II unreleased tracks. Many of the old tracks have been redone to enrich the music.

Many more changes are in store for Chrono Trigger + as work continues. In the meantime, please enjoy Public Demo 1.0, and do please let us know of any bugs you encounter, as well as just what you think of everything. Please, be extensive and critical in your reviews so we can improve whatever it is you feel is sub-par. Thank you, and enjoy!

Beautiful.

Please add this somewhere: (you can revise if you want.)

Factory Password is required to gain entrance the the left side of the factory
(Robo tells you this when you first enter the factory, so people won't get pissed that that they didn't know)

Some special enhancements:
You can now fall off the Denadoro waterfalls (by Masamune cave) and get a hidden chest.
The Lode Sword is now inside the skeleton laying in the Guarida prison, instead of the chest (check the skeleton 4 times)

*These are just the "secrets" that you get to know. You'll have to find more on your own.

3. New musical scores taken from Radical Dreamers, the Chrono Trigger prerelease, and, as always, the infamous Singing Mountain and Battle II unreleased tracks. Many of the old tracks have been redone to enrich the music.

4. Plenty of new little secrets hidden here and there, much like the original hidden chests in Guardia's dungeon(though the Lode sword is now in the skeleton), such as being able to fall off the Denadoro waterfall near the Masamune cave to find a new hidden chest. These are just two of the many, MANY secrets hidden throughout, so keep your eyes open!

5. Completely redone Millennial Fair, with lots of new minigames, as well as a completely redone Silver Point system so the maximum is 50,000. The Fair becomes larger and larger over the course of the game.

--As of Public Demo 1.0, only some of the new minigames, such as the slot machine, black-jack table, and so on, have been put into place.

Excellent.  :)
Oh yeah, should it be 65,000,000 B.G.? I can't beleive I caught that considering how braindead I am right now.  8)
One more thing, make sure you mention that there aren't any new techs in this version yet or people might be pissed.

I will continue my 'Holy Crusade' of importing the several hundred export files. (2 hours?)
When I get that done: rebalance stats of enemies, items, etc ONE LAST time (45 mins?)
~~when I do this, I will do ALL the monsters in the game, HOWEVER only the ones upto & including Magus are fully tested.

After that, some minor misc work here and there...
then extensive testing (with frame-skip of course to cover alot of ground)
When I get to this extesive testing stage, I'll send you a copy - I would be be thrilled to have this released tonight.

Tsunami sword will stay as Tsunami sword (in name only, still has the Swallow sword stats for now - until we get to the latter half of the game- which actually I can't wait to start on, Zeal will be so fun to do!)

Vedic Blade is changed to Atom Edge (9999 Damage) but is very hidden in this demo.
It still needs a home, If you think of a good place to hide, let me know.

Also, did you actually ever get the workspace version I sent you?

Yes, B.G.

Which reminds me: have you done any hard-hack changes to alter the dates displayed on the world map so they read B.G. and A.F.?

Hmm...from what I can tell I think I phrased it that way, but I'll rewrite that line(and for the sake of simplicity just edit the version in the post above yours rather than posting it again and again). Oh, and I'll add a segment about the Millennial Fair; we can't forget that.

I'd say hidden in Crono's house, in the fridge. :D

I haven't hacked any graphics stuff yet so I haven't been able to change that yet.

Yes, can't forget the Millennial Fair (that was actually the whole reason this project started, I wanted a new M. Fair, then figured everyone would want an entire game with these levels of enhancemnts.

Chrono's Fridge? Okay, that would work execpt that 50% of the houses in towns will have hidden items somewhere in them. Kind of like FF6 where you can go to a clock and there's an Elixer in it or an item hidden in a box is another example. If we did this, how about not making it appear until after the a certain point?

You didn't get the workspace? Now I feel terrible, damn e-mail forwarding lied to me! That's okay, it was bug ridden anyways, I was going to send it to you so you could get a general idea. (VAST changes have been made since the last demo I sent you)

Oh, well. I'll just go back to focusing of getting this done.

Okies. Don't worry about getting it done for this Public Demo, unless it's an easy thing that can be done in a few minutes or so.

Don't you just love how big stuff can blossom out of tiny little ideas?

Oh carp. In that case...

In that case, instead of the fridge, let's hide it in Gato's tent. No one would ever check there for anything.

S'okay. Sure, I was slightly disappointed to not have received it after the e-mail said I was, but no worries. I am patient. If I could wait over a month without hearing from you on this stuff, I think I can wait another day or so.

Crap. I can't seem to notice any differece with the RD ambince and the normal CT one. (I'll worry bout this later)

Gato's Tent? Perfect, though I'll make it into a sealed treasure chest just incase someone DOES happen to find it at the start of the game. :)

Oh yeah, more more thing: even though this is a demo version, methinks we should send this to places like Romhacking.net, they'd go to town over this.
I'm starting to think (without Ego) that this is possibly going to be THE Chrono Trigger mod everyone will think of when someone says "CT mod"

Aye. Important thing now is to get the main stuff done. If you can get all of that done by early tonight, and there's a few other things you can toss in that'll be simple and easy to do, we'll do that, but only if we have the time.

...

Wait a sec. Why are we putting it in the game at all? I thought this was for us to shoot through the game for testing purposes for bugs in dialogue and whatnot.

And I agree we should send the demo over to other places. I've already been considering how to promote it on GameFAQs, for instance. I've been mentioning it here and there on GameFAQs, but...I think the mods and admins might be annoyed if I were to go posting a thread just about the mod itself. I dunno...I have seen other threads about other mods...

The Atom Edge can be in a regular chest. You're right, who's going to look there? Just like with the Anubis bow being charmed from Cryrus' Ghost - NO ONE is going to bother doing that.

I don't think GameFAQs would mind, though it's been ages since I've actally been around their forums enough to know the general attittude of the admins.

Also, since we don't have new sidequests to help the players "power-level", Lavos will be only slightly stronger in this version.
