Chrono Cross Character Ranking Feature

I'm a little distressed and sad over our apparent lack of things to do other than recruit translators for the site. So I think I'll revive two features which have always been in the back of my mind: Remix Spotlight II (and III), and Chrono Cross Character Ranking.

Cross Character Ranking will rank all the characters of Cross, with the first 15 receiving special commentary. This topic will open discussion on what attributes will be used to rank them. I suggest:

Combat ability
Character design
Backstory quality
Character development

And we also need to establish a scale. 1-10 is difficult to practically use and makes it really arbitrary, so I'm thinking something like 1-5 might work. I guess we should submit future features to Digg or something.

Backstory is hard to use, not many characters have backstory, and that would immediately undermine them. I'd go for combat ability.

Combat and Design are fine.  Backstory and development are not for the reason already mentioned.  I'd suggest a third category, Tilt.  Basically just a catch-all.

I'd also suggest using named ratings, since unnamed numbers mean different things to different people.  Terrible, Bad, Okay, Good, and Superb or something.  Make sure you have a Taco option for non-votes also.

Would Lynx count as a separate character? Being you are technically Serge when you play as him.

Everyone would vote for Kid or Harle. I think Geiger's tilt idea is best for now...perhaps there will be the choices as handed down by hand-picked editors (admins, long-time contributors).

Tilt will cover this stuff. I meant to say in my earlier post that besides editorial selections, we can probably run a giant public poll with up to three votes for favorite characters. The first issue will be getting enough respondents; the second will be suffering the slings and arrows of misfortune brought on by idiots who'll miss the VOTE THREE TIMES! announcement. It'd be a glorified popularity contest unless someone can think of a new spin to put on it.

With the shear number of playable characters in the game, I think even a three votes poll would be a bit limiting.  My thought was to just have each individual character be rated.  Rating them independently will tend to limit the fanboy tilt slightly more than a free-for-all.  If you run each poll for a week, that's almost a year's worth of polls, content to keep you busy.

Another feature you might do someday, would be to take the inverse viewpoint.  Why does character X suck?  I mean, I can talk myself out of liking the entire original cast.

Except Ayla.  She's pretty much perfect.

I was gonna vote for Miguel. When I fought him before the Dead Sea blew up (damn you FATE), I was completely caught off guard. That, and he was the first boss to really thrash me around.

You could do one character at a time thing, every body votes on Draggy on day then the next day Mojo is up, then Skelly...etc...etc

That would be the best way to go, though I suggest at least two days for each character so that people have plenty of time to vote.
