You can't really play X-2 without playing X first, as the former completely invalidates the best part (maybe even the whole point) of the latter.  Though I can recommend X-2 for its awesome take on the ATB.  Its the closest to twitch gameplay you're likely to find in a Final Fantasy.

Play IX if you prefer pre-VII FF's.  Its a nice throwback to those days, though the mini-games make me want to scream.

Play XII if you want to play the best Final Fantasy in the last decade.  Only Mark Hunting drags it down.
the ATB in X-2 was great, next FF using the ATB should use the X-2 style one. (aside from XIII's since its probably built around the fact that your using a single character)
mark hunting should have removed the need to go find and talk to everyone before going off to slaughter cacti and whatnot.

If there's any game worth getting a PS2 for, it isn't FF. Ico, SotC and Okami are much more worthy of your time.

But IMO you'd be best off getting X if you MUST play a Final Fantasy game.

Have you played FFs I-VI? If not, FFVI Advance would be a good choice.

Here's a question:

If Ultimecia sucks, and Sephiroth rules, which game has the best villain?

Ridiculous. FFXII is the first final fantasy to run away from the gameplay, plot scope and story emphasis cliche. No wonder children, fanbithces and retards hate it.
I can't speak for others, but I'm not having a fanboy reaction here. I don't like it because I really did not enjoy playing it. It was boring, trite, and unfun, with a crappy plot and equally crappy characters. It was not a fun game.

Curious thing you write the exact same thing every fanchild retard I know of, about XII. Just curious, y'know.

Cuppa:

No.

I'll go straight to the point: Play it. For the tastes you presented in posts I remember of, I think you would love its plot and characters.

The same goes for ZealitY.

You're being tricky with that question. The answer is FF6.

I love 9's Kuja. Definetely a cool boss. Oh, and another reason to play FF9 - the awesome defeat in the rain scene.

WARNING: Spoilers in the link!

EDIT: Well, not really...but can't be too careful. Z, watch if you decide not to play FF9.

I liked IX. Just a few exceptions, like the way trance Kuja and Zidane looked(come on, I expected something...better); I never got the reason why to play the card-minigame; and that damn stealing, sometimes it took over 50 tries it seemed(from bosses) and I still didn't get it(the item, that is).

I seem to be one of the only persons here who really enjoyed X...in my opinion Tidus acted more human than most other characters, he showed his emotions etc.. Most people call it whiny bitching or whatever, but I liked it, a lot. Blitzball sucked IMO, getting those damn Limitbreaks(forgot the English name here) for Wakka and this Sigil part just took far to long(and I only played the minimum amount of games).

Am I the only one who thought Aurons arm was broken or something when you first saw him?

And another thing I didn't really get, the german subtitles. They weren't translated from the ingame-sequenzes, tha's for sure, but I still wonder wether they are from the original Japanese, or the Translated english(which then was made to fit the sequenzes). There sometimes have been some major difference.

Some sequences were far to long, especially the ones before a boss(*flux*). And far to many(I mean FAR TO MANY) random encounters.

Though I won't argue about the card game, Chocobo Hot & Cold is one of the best FF Mini Games.

Really? I never really had much trouble with Zidane's stealing...that's weird...

Heh, I only ended up getting like four of the final weapons and Wakka's wasn't one of them...

I liked Final Fantasy X just fine, but probably because it felt like the battle gameplay and the general atmosphere of the game made up for the mostly so-so voice acting and whiny protagonist.

Playing that game made me want to go to a tropical island and swim all day.

Well, granted, buying the game isn't a prerequisite, but owning the console is...
you sir, have never used an emulator then. my gameboy is the only console I need.

Typically, for anything PS2 or better, you really do need the console, since not everyone has bought a new desktop computer in the last year or so. Especially Zeality. He's probably using Windows 98 on something that's almost as old as some of the forum members.

Yeah, and unless you've got a controller for it, emulating even PSX games using your keyboard can be tiresome...I personally wouldn't emulate anything over 16-Bit...though I haven't had a steady comp in years now so maybe things have changed...I know I'd want to see how well DS emulators are now...

don't need a new rig just a few upgrades. if it can handle vista without lag, it can handle any emulator I've got. :D
