It's that time for Final Fantasy again...
« on: August 03, 2007, 10:42:42 pm »
In 2005, I played 7 (thread's still on the forum); in 2006, 8. I'm already planning a replay of 8 with insane Gameshark codes (just to breeze through stuff and see how much damage I can do / disable random encounters), but I'm wondering if I should try and tackle a new one. So will it be...

9, 10 & 10-2, or 12?

Please eliminate the spoilers.

Don't be stupid and buy the game. Do what Sephiroth would do: Break into Sony's headquarters, kill everybody, and steal what you want.

Well, granted, buying the game isn't a prerequisite, but owning the console is...

IX its the game where the FFs quality began to decline greatly, during the second half of the game it gets somewhat disappointing for some and has some badly done bits of story but overall its a great game.

X has crybaby Tidus the eternal whiner, without him the game would have been quite good but Tidus makes it horrible, that and one of the villains acts like a gay Sephiroth wannabe.

X-2 is interesting but lacks a decent story.

XII like X has a great world setting but the characters are even more hopeless than Tidus.

go play IX enjoy it then brace for disappointment with what comes after. Square still good at creating worlds that the FF games are set in but they seriously need to work on their characters.

Hah, what a 666th post. You know, I think I'll use that Sephiroth stabbing Cloud in my signature, too.

You're talking about Seymour. I'm pretty sure that he's not gay. Or were you trying to use that as a slur? In which case you're in trouble...

I've never played 8, 9 , or 10-2. So I won't comment on those.

10 was a lot of fun I thought. The leveling method was a bit different because of the sphere grid, but you sort of got used to it I guess. I got stuck on one boss, and haven't played it since. I have no desire to even beat the game.
Blitzball is all I used to play. That was a fun game.

12 was a a game very similar to FF11, a MMMORPG I used to play. The battle were exactly like 11, but with you controlling every character. It was a fun game as well, but as others have said it fell short with story and character development. I am at the very last battle in that game as well, but I have no desire to beat the game.

I'd say play 9. 10 and 12 were meh at best in my opinion. I think the good FFs stopped after 8, unless 9 is good. With the exception of 11, which is a MMORPG, 10, 10-2, and 12 were sort of disappointments to me. They weren't bad per-se, but they weren't that great either.

Play 9. It's better than 10. It's a lot of fun, and has good mechanics. I even liked the card mini game you can play throughout. Don't let the nay-sayers bother you. It was meant to be a bit more retro. This is a good thing. If anything, after 9, you should go backwards and play 6, which I'm presently going through again on the GBA.

IX had a retro feel, and depending on who you talk to, that's great or it's not. For me, I enjoyed it. I'd say it's my favorite out of the whole series, actually, with VI rather close.

Oh, and one more thing: surely you have a computer that could EMULATE the console?

PS2 emulation demands high performance. I can't deliver it right now, especially with my budget locked into a higher ideal for the time being...

Oh.

...

Guess I just figured that if I could afford a computer capable of it, surely everyone else here could. (Because I'm not exactly rich, if you know what I mean.)
