Magus As An 8BT Character!?!
« on: August 15, 2007, 08:45:10 pm »
Well, since it's been a LOOOOOOONG time since I last checked out 8-Bit Theater (I think they were on some Ice Island or some junk a couple HUNDRED comics ago, right?), I was skimming over it's Characters section (initially looking for those bitchin drawn pics of the cast that some friend of his did...and not finding it, much like I no longer can find the awesome icons, like the one I use as my avy everywhere I go...) and I saw MAGUS is one of the sprites used in the series! Here's teh lowdown from their Wikipedia entry...

Quote from: WIKI_OWNZ_YR_SOUL
First Appearance: Episode 654: Ominous[25]

One of the Dark Gods Black Mage worships and the one who brought about his class change. The Dark God appears to be involved in some sort of rivalry with Doctor Swordopolis, although the exact implications of this rivalry are still unclear. His official title is "Executive Assistant to Chaos", being one of many middle management deities in the organization of evil. The Dark God is known to work in the 'Ministry of Earthly Affairs'.

The Dark God's name, if any, has not been revealed, so Black Mage himself makes up the name "Darko, the Dark God of the Dark" in an attempt to convince his friends that he had really met a dark god. The sprite used to portray the Dark God is that of Magus from the game Chrono Trigger.

I am shocked and appalled that no one mentioned this startling turn of events to me...er, the Compendium...Because it's obviously so ground-breaking...someone using an awesome sprite in a freakin sprite comic...V_V

Now I'm off to see if I can find out where the hell I left off on 8-Bit Theater...

It's really not that shocking, nor news worthy, especially since 8Bit Theatre is now just some stupid formulaic comic rather than actually being funny like it once was.

I have yet to read 8bit Theater, currently the only web comics I read is Order of the Stick and I have recently fall in love with xkcd.

Yeah, I actually just started to re-read the entirety of the 8-Bit Theater comics (up to 70) and I still love the one where Cloud comes in and summons a chocobo...

The only web-comic I read is White Ninja...though if I had headphones or the library had speakers (and didn't crash when loading anything above a .gif), I'd definately still go on over to Strong Bad's Emails (I think I got the url right...).

Yeah I knew about ol' Darko for a while now.  I would have mentioned it sooner, but I'm still in mourning over the end of acclaimed webcomic, Bob and Gerorge.  Seven years, man... where did it all go?  Come back, Bob and George!  I need my "ice cream is yummy" and "Mega Man is stupid" jokes!  *Weeps openly*

Someone in the Magus Facebook Group just posted links to the 8BT comics with Magus in it, so I thought it fitting to post them here...

I've started rereading 8bt too. I had stopped somewhere in the 400s. Now I'm back up to around 220 or so, reading several more episodes every few days. I'd forgotten how funny some of them were.

That's funny because in my re-reading I had forgotten how lame some of them are! :P

Ahhh... glad that I didn't need to make a comment on this. I was delighted when he first started appearing in 8BT, because it shows to me that Brian Cleavinger truly does think of Magus as being badass.

And lame episodes aside, I still adore 8-Bit Theater to pieces... long live the legend!

(yes, it is depressing that Bob & George is no more; a loss to fans everywhere)

I think it's weird that Magus, a 16-Bit character, is in 8BT though...They should have used his overworld sprite or found a way to dumb it down...*shrugs*

Magus - Too badass to be 8-bit.
