Pretty well. Like Ramsus said, debates will ensue in concern to talking about the future. But once a mountain of work is clearly presented, none can question the achievement.

There are still a small handful of idiots scattered around the community who failed to read the readme and are assuming we're Woolsey-hating translation fascists who failed to produce a "superior" product.

Are they stopping their project, though? Or are they going through with it?

I can't view the project forum. I can see it when logged out, but not when I'm logged in!

Far as I know, they're going through with it. But we've at least established the canon as standard, so the analysis and state of canonical understanding is safe. RPGOne is also continuing with their project.

Looking back, we did pretty good. KWhazit translated over a couple years, and it took all of one month to make a patch. That has to be some kind of speed demon record for translating RPGs. And hey, we didn't even complain about real life or demand Paypal donations to get there.

True.

And like Vehek, I can't see the project forum while logged in.

Oh god you're evil xD.
Awesome patch, but variable width font would be win.

W00T!

Hello, I've been coming to the Compendium for a while (at least a year or two), but when I saw this I just had to register to comment.

I've been playing the Retranslation for the last couple of days and I'm currently just outside the Factory Ruins (after you revive Robo). So far its great, however there are a couple of issues that I've noticed: 1) In one of the Domes [sorry can't remember the name right now] a person asks "Kingdom Year whats that?" however the "r" at the end of "year" is cut off at the top so it kind of looks like "Yea|" (only the line at the end would be smaller). 2) From what I understand in the JP version Magus is called "Mao" however everyone in the Retranslation has been calling him "Magus." I assume this has something to do with the game's naming system, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

If there was only some way to import my cap/tab maxed out lvl 99 characters from my old CT cart I would be able to go though it much quicker, but its been a long while since I had to go though the game in an honest fashion. So, I guess I'll just enjoy the ride all over again.

Anyway, great job guys...maybe this will get interest going and Square-Enix will get off its ass and finally make Chrono Break.

Thanks. Yeah, the Magus thing is just a creative decision. There were two ways to go with that: Maou and Mazoku or whatever (Magus and the Mystics) as Buddhist metaphors, or Magus and Demons as things quickly identifiable with English audiences. Since Magus is already like a mage, and since leading "Demons" makes him a sort of demon king, those both worked harmoniously.

Thanks about the line note.

We can always change Magus' name when he joins the party!

Are they stopping their project, though? Or are they going through with it?

for the record MOST of us at RHDN (romhacking.net) are totally fine with it, some people may not be super fans, but they are ok with it. I for one think it's great, also a bit of a debate almost started but the mod involved didn't even let it start and banned a few members who even began to start talking translation philosophy their, so I think it was handled pretty professionally.

Also the group of like 2 guys that are doing their retranslation at RHDN are still planning on doing their's but it's not currently in active development, it's not like it's a huge community project, and they aren't trying to up-one you guys either. They are doing their's slightly differently. they've got some top notch coders on board so they are going to delve deeper into technical things than possible with this version (nickname stuff, Variable Width Font, etc. I don't know all the details) and while their's IS a retranslation from the japanese like yours, it's not going to be as literal. It won't be americanized, but it probably will follow a different slightly different sentence structure (than literal) at places to make it easier for english speaking people to read, and also take off the japanese edge a bit to fit the world of the game, such as honorifics, they might also call Frog Kaeru just for the heck of it.

Again, I'm not speaking for them as I am not part of the team, nor is this in any way in competition with this current retranslation. I don't know everything about their project, and it'll prolly be awhile since the project leader is trying to beef up his skills on other games.

anyways, hope that clears up a few things.

also Sky Render apparently hasn't said anything about cancelling his project either, but the folks at RPGOne.net are a LONG ways from seeing anything released.

Also IIRC they are both working off of the japanese rom as a base, but I could be remembering wrong.

For these reason, and that you all are seeking different things with your releases, I think many people are very happy with your release as it is very exact and is the first one out.

Thanks again to everyone.
