Chrono Cross 2D??
« on: January 03, 2008, 01:01:44 pm »
Hi there,
I hope that this is the appropriate forum for this post, as well as I hope this is not one of those topics where everyone goes, "Oh lord, not CC2D again!!!11!11"  I apologize if so.

I was wondering if anyone had every made a serious effort to hack a 2D version of Chrono Cross, using Chrono Trigger-style gameplay and graphics?  I know there was talk at one time of demiforce doing a remake, but that seems to have died a long time ago.  Just curious.

Link to the old demiforce project:   http://chronomaster.sourceforge.net/

I don't really think anyone has quite yet...Don't think it'll happen due to character limits.  UNless you make it in Game Maker or RPG Maker.

The plot could be modified to accommodate a small party. But there's still the issue of tech hacking. And music...

Well, the only real issue with tech hacking that i've been seeing or having is changing the direction or the Geometry drawing.  Haven't been able to track those down for techs.

It doesn't seem that it would be any harder than some of the more extravagant CT manips around here (Crisis and Crimson Echoes are both extremely large and well-detailed, with lots of changes).  Anyway, it's more of a curiosity thing than anything; I know I can't do it, I would just like to see one someday.

You'd be surprised at how difficult even the smallest of hacks can be.

the only problem is that you would get a cease and desist.

and if your really desprate you would have to consider hiding the project.

good idea thought.

I've been trying to find a link to download the patch for Chrono Crisis... Can someone give me a link?

Chrono Crisis isn't a patch.  It's a fan-made game made with RPG Maker XP.  It's not released, there isn't a demo, nor will there ever be a demo.  Just wait for the full release.

He must be talking about the old, first Chrono Crisis demo. It's so much different than what's currently planned that it's probably a good idea not to play it though. The game's site doesn't even host it anymore.

I always thought this could be a cool hack...Story/Character wise, all you'd have to do would be to make it so you can't choose to let them join up...Otherwise it would be a HUGE project, which means it'll probably never be done. I highly doubt it would get a C&D...They only did that for 3D "remakes", which were, at the time, kind of a threat to them since their copyrights for a series sequel were still in play...and there was talk about the teams behind those "remakes" getting moneys (or at least one of them...I forget now). No 16-Bit ROM Hack has ever gotten a C&D that I've ever heard of.

that's because no other hack has intended to remake a copyrighted game. hacks don't usually get cease and desist for the main fact that there mostly original.

Re-Translations much?

well that's slittly different.

to complete a project like this thoug would require alot of help.
a hard fact about this is that chrono cross is a little to complicated to be in 16-bit form, but if you merged some plot points together and simplified some aspects of the story than it could be doable.
but some parts of the story would be left out ultimately. for instance: serge turning into lynx would be hard to do, considering you'd spend alot of time as lynx, and he would have to become a pc, but that effect might be hard to pull off because you'd have to remove serge from pc, than after serge is restored to normal all the stats would have to transfer with serge, and lynx could no longer be playable.

all in all this 2d chrono cross could work but alot of rewriting would be in order to make it work on a ct rom.
