Weird Tab location
« on: December 05, 2004, 06:00:26 pm »
I was screwing around with the CT emulator, and I was turning the different background layers on and off, when I found a weird tab location.  In Kajar, go to the upper right corner of the main big room.  There should be two bookshelves.  Now, disable background layer two.  If you wait for a second, you should see a tab glowing behind the bookshelves.  It's impossible to get to, though.  What do you guys think?

Sorry I couldn't post images to show you.  I have screenshots on my computer, but I can't post them here.

If you actually go into the research room beyond and check the wall nearest to the entrance where the bookcases would be if you could see the main part of Kajar from whence you came, you will find a Magic Tab.

As i was walking through Zeal with the backgounds screwed up, I noticed something weird.  In Zeal palace, there is a place where Masa and Mune are standing and talking to each other.  Now, turn off background 2.  All of a sudden, a random Nu should appear between Masa and Mune.  It actually scared me the first time i saw it, since i wasn't expecting it at all.

Interesting. Here's a picture:

I think he's just there to prevent you from walking between Masa and Mune.

Is that right before you go into the throne room for the first time?

Yeah, they're gone after the Ocean Palace is completed. My theory is that a Nu was used to prevent the player from walking between them. The Nu has large hit detection, and would make a good block.

Was it actually necessary to use an invisible sprite, though? It seems odd.

Maybe they were just being lazy...

It proabably takes up less code to do that then to prevent them from walking through there. The game was pretty large in coding size if I am not mistaken.

cool.  That's actually pretty smart of them, to put in an invisible sprite instead of writing more code to prevent you from walking over that place.

Nu's are like... all powerful, so they can do whatever the hell they want.

It's probably so they wouldn't have to edit the map. In fact, Nu's purpose in the game might have originally been to block passages and doors. A gatekeeper of sorts.

Can you walk up to Masa and Mune and talk to them, but not walk through them? Not being able to walk between them seems a bit weird...
