FaithFreedom.org
« on: January 23, 2008, 09:18:46 pm »
So yeah, I visited FaithFreedom.org, willing to participate in some intelligent discussions on the forum, but what I got instead was quite the opposite. For example, what I saw were Christians reciprocating what their local priest said about Islam being for offsprings of the devil, a whole lot of double standards, the main site Admin, Ali Sina, preaching his quite violent views, a whole lot of immature mocking ("mu HAM mads a pedophile lol"), biased perspectives influenced by Christian and commerical media, and misrepresentation. Is it just me or is wherever I go a cespool of ignorance and bigotry? I don't support what Islam has done to the world today, but I don't see Ali Sinas solution of banning it outright, destroying anything to do with it and violently subduing any Muslim that objects, quite appealing.

Chrono Compendium appeals to me because, even though many of us may not agree on subjets, at least we discuss it somewhat respectfully, rather than pour a butload of hypocrisy into my ears.

Just thought I'd rant.

"When such movements acts up with violence, violence is the correct way to destroy them. Japan was nuked to submission. Germany was made into a wasteland. Peace was achieved. The world of Islam beckons such an action."

Burning Zeppelin: Yeah extremist views usually flood boards like the one mentioned. But also remember *people like that* are sick hypocrites who don't even deserve to call themselves Christians, anyways.  *Any* hate or violence in the name of a peaceful religion is a hypocrisy and an abomination. :x

Then every major religion has much to answer for.

Exactly. But Christians on the FaithFreedom boards reply with "hey, no one flew a plane into two towers for Christ", or "Christians don't do bad things anymore". Jesus.

As opposed to the Gods? Then think of religious thought as a poisonous seed. In some, it merely clouds reason and judgment, leading to unfulfilled lives. But in others, it provokes hatred, prejudice, and violence. The root is ultimately rotten.

I've given up on Faithfreedom.org. It's full of hypocrites, people who look at Islam as religion of hatred, and yet they don't even accept that the Church WAS the state back in the day. The also don't accept that Christianity was spread by the sword. It disgusts me. I'm not even a Muslim anymore really, I'm an agnostic (nothing to do with faith Freedom, more to do with this board really, and a few, ironically, Islamic websites), and yet I am still appalled by the level of hatred on the boards.

Then people have much to answer for.

No sense singling out a particular social institution when it is the participants, not the institutions, fault. You can (and usually do) get excessive hate and violence in any social structure, religious or not. Indeed, one could well define what it means to be human by our ability to corrupt otherwise good ideas.

To be fair ZeaLitY, I must side with Thought in that it is the interpretation the brings wrath not the message. Although I stray far from the idea of humans being defined by it ability to corrupt. I can not play as big of a roll in these debates as the rest of you, just because I haven't given it nearly as much thought. I make choices based of what I know and feel, not from religious texts or proven scientific rules.

Ah, interpretations. You'd have to make very rosy, optimistic interpretations to avoid carrying out or adhering to the spirit of a list like this to any degree of accuracy:

http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/long.html

And let's not forget how hard it is to "interpret" this doctrine correctly:

Quote from: Richard Dawkins
The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.
