As you might know already, Ramsus is going to restore the frontend for the Chrono Compendium. With this comes the opportunity of finally diverting some of the focus from database construction and archiving of information to weekly features and attractions that will keep visitors coming to see fresh presentations. Not only will this invigorate the site, it will also make the Chrono Series itself seem somewhat more alive; the Compendium can become the pulse of the title, with our editorials and polls pumping new blood into it.

I've given it some thought while the Compendium is down, and this is my first idea for a way to handle this:

Events Committee

Events Commitee provides over these weekly features. It is composed of dependable, reliable and timely members who can meet a weekly deadline and collaborate with others on the Events board, which will be locked so that the features can remain a surprise each week.

Under the Committee, we have:

Polls

Each week, a new poll will be assigned. I'll post the poll at different boards; these will include Chronoshock, Chronicles, Gamefaqs (Chrono Trigger, Cross, Radical Dreamers), the Compendium, OCReMix (on a master thread; I'll handle this to reduce flaming) and anywhere else you suggest. This is much more widespread than simply running a poll on the site, and this way we can collect large results. At the end of the week, those responsible will visit their particular board, collect the data and report to the Events Committee, which will prepare it for presentation.

Editorials

Editorials can be a departure from our analysis and serious discussion. We can do simply things like rank the characters of Chrono Cross according to a certain attribute, or talk about the hardest dungeons in the series. Anything goes; these can be whimsical or even informative, and should reflect a good writing style and complete comprehension of the Chrono series. Members of the Committee will collaborate on or submit Editorials. Editorials are not weekly, but sporadic.

Sound good? And does anyone wish to volunteer at this stage?

I'll volunteer for the polls.  I'm not good at actually writing editorials and such, but I love weekly polls.  Would I actually be posting the polls, or would I (and other people) tell you the question we thought up?

Editorials sound fun. I can't say I'd commit to writing them right now, but its something to consider.

Okay. I've been giving it some thought. Members so far

Pollsters merely go to an assigned messageboard and tally results (yes, no, etc.). Editorialists can volunteer to write an entire editorial on their own, or can collaborate. I've already drawn several ideas for collaborations. I'll let the cat out of the bag; the first experimental editorial will be a ranking of the characters of Chrono Trigger in any way the editorialists like. They then must write a small paragraph on why they ranked each character the way they did. The rankings will be averaged once everyone's in (I think we'll use 5 editorialists for this one) and then we'll present the final result along with commentary from each editorialist on each character.

This is an opportunity to just write fun stuff or express yourself in ways that dry discussion and analysis won't allow. I've already got a "ReMix Spotlight" editorial planned, where editorialists can perhaps talk about their favorite remixes, or songs they feel evoke the most passion for the series. The beauty, as always, is that you don't have to do something week-to-week. Responsibilities will be first-come, first-serve. If you want to write, just respond at the beginning of a week; sitting out is fine.

I would like to contribute. It sounds very interesting and is an excellent idea. It is important to rekindle the interest that more people had in the series. I would just like to know when that first editorial you spoke of may be due.

Since it is experimental and we don't have the frontend up yet, it hasn't been determined. Welcome aboard.

Also, to everyone--

I need a list of boards other than these that would be receptive to a poll.

Chrono Compendium Forums
Chrono Chronicles Forums
Chronoshock Forums
Gamefaqs Chrono Trigger, Cross, Radical Dreamers Forums
OCReMix (stretch; I'll ask Darkesword for permission)
SquareInsider

If you know another active RPG forum where Chrono fans hang out that would possibly be receptive to a thread devoted to polling, post it up. Thanks.

Once I get a dependable Internet resource (I'm looking into getting one of my friend's computer's now...) I'd love to help out. Sounds like a neat idea.

Zeality, the CTNP boards would easily welcome polling. I could perform the actual task of polling at the site.
