Check in.

I just did some random things with this, lowered the cost of ethers, added a new heckran and Zeal AI (the human zeal) and put in the arc (i'm assuming not the pallette cause right now it looks ugly)

A pretty Ark graces this patch.

You said something about corruption in the latest Graphics hacking thread json, why? This is a normal full patch, and shouldn't be any riskier than any other patch.

(PATCH TAKEN DOWN FOR FURTHER CORRECTION)

The patch I posted two posts up used has your original cedircs arc patch applied to it which you said didn't use the "correctional factor".  If this causes the patch to write to bytes that it shouldn't then we need to go and "undo" those changes that it made.

Crap, that's right, I need to restore the palette subsequent to the dactyl's palette now, since I got the palette starting positions wrong before. Hold on.

Here are some Flux files for the final dungeon. Whoever has the latest ROM can apply them. I haven't polished the last area and the ending yet. Apply these files and please also do these tweakings (which can't directly be transfered with Flux files):

1/ In location {13B}, move the treasure box coordinates down to where the treasure box tile is on the map;
2/ In location {13E}, move the ScrollLeft all the way to 0;
3/ In location {141}, move the ScrollDown to 30.

Also...once I have polished the ending, I'll stop doing this and do a beta-test thread kind of thing instead, because I admittedly work too slowly, because all these "release" preparations are going way too fast for me to keep up anymore, and because I've grown disheartened that everybody feels like the game is nearly complete. IMHO, some parts of the game are still way too rough, confusing, confused, and rushed. There are probably a dozen of minor inconsistencies and/or major plotholes still lying around (due to my own plot revisions). I tried my best to keep up and work fast enough to fix everything, but I guess I just can't run after a train that's going at the speed of sound. I'll just complete the ending, lower my standards for the game, and do less overwhelming stuff like beta-testing or whatever. Just to clarify, I'm not blaming anyone; everybody since 2004 did/does a fantastic job. It's just that I'm disheartened that we can do so much better, but don't have the time to. Alea iacta est and whatnot, I guess.

Alrighty this deserves a response I'm worried that it's pretty much the same response I gave in the CTDS thread:

I think it's easy to get caught up in chasing perfection.  We've done an amazing job here, it's a solid game that despite the plot holes you've mentioned...I think it makes sense.  In fact I think it's so temporally correct that fans might get overwhelmed (for example calkhula reappearing, marles  1AD trip twice).

We've....spent alot of time on this game.  I'm probably embarrassed to say how long i've worked on this game.  And honestly, i'm tired.... I don't know how much longer I can go.  I come home every day and spend atleast a couple of hours working on the hack.  That's not to say i'll leave the community post CE but i'll probably move to working on tools and maybe one more (small) hack.  I've made the choice to devote time to this game and it fit rather well into my real life situatoin to devote this much time (after school ended I had alot more free time).  But we've pushed back the release alot already, longer than I expected (i thought we'd release a few months ago) and I can't continue to devote this kind of time forever.

I'm just worried....if we keep trying to make it better we'll never release.  I remember a couple years ago telling Zeality we could probably release by christmas....never happened.  Real life happens, it's hit me, it's hit chrono'99, it's probably hit zeality...

That being said...chrono'99 is an integral part of this game...probably second after me (no offense anyone...but if you spend more time on this than me than...well it's impossible) if he doesn't want to release...than..let's not.  But I can't promise that I can contribute as much as I am.  I've gotten the game to a steady enough state where I think chrono'99 can hopefully  finish it alone but....if he can't, or if real life takes him over, well I dont think there is anyone besides me or him that can ride this horse to the finish line.....so it worries me.

That being said...by my count
chapter 1-12:  Chrono'99 ified
Chapter 23: Chrono'99 ified

Chapter 13/15 I feel like are in good enough shape.
Chapter 16: I don't really think this is a high priority chapter at all...in fact it was originally a sidequest

Chapter 14:  I really wish you'd consider giving this chapter a look.  I felt like this needed your eye before the beta and Leno in the questionairre made me think that even more.

That leave 17/18/19/20.

If we push back the release date then this might change but honestly...i don't think we should chrono'99 ify chapter 18.  It's just..too much and I don't think we could ever be happy with it's final outcome...if the beta testing is chasing a train at the speed of sound, 18 being a perfect chapter is chasing a train at the speed of.....sound *10
17 Could use a look over but I think it's decent enough where maybe me and zeality can do it.
19: This was tricky..i tried to use your notes on this (you said to use heckrans cave) but well...I did my best.
20: This was a map I was pretty proud of....I feel like I should be the one to make it better.....and I will

I really tried to make everyone happy with the product....I scoured the forums searching for ideas people posted and tried to put them in the game....everything from nightmares mall advertisement, to daniel krispin....or maybe lord J's, thing with the fates.....to chrono 99's Frog and magus causing hte fall of guardia.  I want everyone to be happy with the product I really do.....i spend too much time on it to say otherwise. So it kind of sucks if like....one of the most influential contributors to the product isn't happy....it sucks enough where I'm not sure I could release comfortably.

Anyways..it's already 11:30 here so i wouldn't get into a good vibe if I started working on the ROM today.  I'll give it it's due diligence tomorrow.

It's probably a foregone conclusion, too. I imagine that if we started with a fresh CT ROM, removed the content, and wrote down all the enemy graphics, locations, etc...basically auditing the entire ROM, then we could figure out how to change literally EVERYTHING to make the newest possible ROM hack.

But Crimson Echoes already uses 90% of Chrono Trigger's art assets, 90% of Chrono Trigger's old locations...it's very much Chrono Trigger 2, not Chrono Echoes. When I realized this, I stopped feeling bad about certain things, like reusing those locations, because CE's spirit is very much..."you finished CT. But it's NOT OVER YET! Come back into this world, there's another story here!"

I put in Chrono 99's polished mashup of time (great stuff as always) and fixed various bugs in the beta testing forum.

Oh yea.....the arc looks PERFECT.
