Maybe it's Zealian fashion...and besides, it's sort of used as a disguise too...maybe he didn't feel like changing his physical appearance...? Besides, anything uncool on someone cool gets reverse coolness points!

Right... now the real question is, how can we add a whoopie cushion to Magus' sprite design ;)

though seriously, which version are we going with? It's kind of important before I continue to try to make more...

So far I count justin3009 & myself going w/the purist, covered version...Thought, your version is based on the more uncovered version...anybody else? Who all was even behind the hack? Their input would be much appreciated, I think...Especially since I'm not even sure if they want this or not...>_>

Actually, I was just trying to show you what I meant about shadows. I like the more covered version, personally, but whatever people want, I'll try to do (and the defeated sprite was based off the covered face).

EDIT: Hey, I kind of just noticed, looking through Magus' sprite sheet...but, uh...is it even going to be able to support these sprites? I mean, from the look of the top sprites, Magus is pushing the height limit as is...does Temporal Flux allow for something like this yet or what? Last I remember hearing, sprites had to fit the game's sprite size standard...anybody know? Looks like I DIDN'T quite know how insane this was...V_V

That is also something we'll need to consider about width; it would suck for someone to put a lot of work in on the cape/cloak flowing behind him only to find out it gets cut off. Does anyone know the dimensions for what the sprites should be? In comparing the Prophet with Magus, they shrunk magus a good bit to fit him under that cowl.

That made me laugh pretty hard, right there.

Anyways, from what justin3009 said, it seems as though we're good on space, then?

Also, I'm just gonna say that the more covered version is unanimous unless maybe someone actually from Prophet's Guile (I really hate writing it as "PG"...even though I DO think it's a good, clever title, it has a stupid acronym...V_V) wants to come in & ruin my life by saying otherwise. :P

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot, I did this one first...I think it's the back of the sprite I've been showing...I did it cause I knew it'd be easy...figured I'd just share...

Hmm... well, are some parts of Prophet's Guile not suitible for children? If so, the abbreviation works for me.

But really, if I were Magus and I were wearing a pointy hood like that, I'd want my face to be covered too.

EDIT: I suppose I'll probably work on the Not Quite Dead Yet sprites (rows 8 and 9, columns 4, 5, 6, and 7) next, but I wont have a chance until next week and even then it will probably take quite some time.

You can probably fit him in.  Most of his sprites will reuse the point at the top of his hood..easy to manipulate.  The cape width is also ALOT smaller then original Magus, which leaves extra slots to be open.  So I think there's a great chance he'll fit in fine.

Edit: Here's an update of the portrait.  I think this might be the final version....unless someone thinks something should be changed.

I have the sprite sheet of what we have so far.  I'll keep updating it as we're progressing.

Man, everytime you post something like this, I'm impressed. This is one helluva good status pic.

I've been having some problems with Frog and Crono's status pics, reducing colors on most pics just SLAUGHTERS the things.

heh.... I had a feeling that was about the response I was going to get. Seriously though, I have the other characters pics down, but reducing colors on Crono and Frog just kills all life in the things, even if I reduce colors bit by bit, and edit as I go, by the end, they just look like shit. I have no idea why, but I just don't seem to be very good with the status pic thing. -_-

Hmm, i startd to do the one directly under teh back one I did already and it looks like I'm also going to be lengthening the hair...or else it's just longer as the prophet for some reason...here, I'll show you what I mean...

In the first one, I just copied the Prophet pretty much exactly, I think, hair & all...in the second, I needed to alter it somewhat because the hand is raised up more...I thought I'd also try to take the arrangement of the hair over, since when I just put the Prophet's head w/o the Prophet's hair, it didn't look quite right just straight down like that...

Though now that I look at the sheet, I might want to keep the two bottom parts the same...I'm not sure, but I don't think the two are connected in any animation...but I might as well apply the bottom of the bottom one to the bottom of the top one, since I think it looks better that way, especially the hair, I think...more unique than just the straight down hair look of the regular walking Prophet, yeah?

But yeah, as you can see, it looks like the Prophet's hair is longer...

His hair isn't longer.  The way Magus is positioned, he's leaning foward a bit which pulls his hair up OR the cape movement is lifting his hair.  The prophet isn't, which puts his hair down.

Doesn't look quite right. There's too much contrast with his face and the cloth's colors. Make the face a little less pale or make the cloth brighter.

Alrighty.  His face is suppose to be pale though...considering that's his actual face coloring AND palette.  I'll make the cloth brighter I guess...After I get home from school that is.

Ooo, Magus Bobble-head.

But the ancient art of pallet selection is a lovecraftian school of thought. Each color is selected for its role and how it interacts with every other color (because what might be "flesh tone" may also be needed for a boot, or a belt, or pants, etc). As the original pallets weren't created with the Prophet's picture in mind, it is only reasonable to conclude that the pallete might not work for such a purpose. Admittedly, though, I suck at efficient and effective pallete selection so I might just be full of crap.

Note: Magus and the Prophet sprites appear to have been designed differently. They did not take Magus Sprites, like we are, and edited them to put a crazy cowl on. Rather, it looks like they were built from the ground up. We can see this in the leg positions of the prophet (which don't match with any Magus sprite) and the fact that their chins are at different heights. As such, it makes sense for use to extend the hair to better match what the viewer expects of the prophet (actual length is not a relevant issue, then). However, it might be useful to set a standard height for everyone to follow.
