We know who is daddy's favorite.

I officially find d3viant entertaining.  You better NEVER leave the Compendium or I'll find you and make you say more witty things.  I'll keep you locked up in my basement and...

...What?...Oh.  Yeah.

Final Fantasy IX.  I HATED it the first time I played it through.  But then I waited two years or so and gave it another run and I fell in love with it.  It's my favorite of the Final Fantasy's now.  Everytime I go Terra I have to create a second save file because Terra just leaves me feeling...  I dunno.  It's so "pretty" and alien and I just loved it.

God bless those sweet little Genomes.   *awwwwwwwwwwww*

I hated Chrono trigger the first time I bougth it, It was the PSX ver. stupid loading time. I was reall angry that I came back to the game store and change it for another one, but later I hear about it in the tv and buy it again and yes I have my ring tones from CC and CT.
And another game was FFX I loved it but when I reached the last battle with Sin the games frezee...

My first copy of FFVIII froze during the Train scene.

Yeah, that toothpaste shit is a lie. My Chrono Cross disk froze RIGHT at the body switch scene, and I did it exactly how the videos showed me WITH regualr flavored toothpaste.

That's the last time I leave a game over in texas for a year. :/

Toothpaste works for me, but a real repair kit works all the time. Take your pick.

Some discs are just ruined sometimes.

I've never heard the 'toothpaste' method before...>_> I have a GameDoctor CD repair thingy though and it's always worked...even on a CD that had a almost HALF AN INCH CRACK in it! Yeah, not just a scratch, but a CRACK (That's all the way through!)!!! CDs are weird...

Also, I just noticed all the FF posts...y'know, I made a FF thread in here waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day...if someone were to bump it to talk about the FFs, I'd cry w/nostalgia (& be able to talk about the FFs on topic!). I'm sure a whole NEW thread would be acceptable too though if you wanna be a complete WUSS about it! ;)

That's the funny thing; The disc doesn't even have any scratches on it, besides the regular ones ganed from years of gameplay. It almost looks BRAND NEW. V_Translanka was right... CDs are wierd.

Wait, have you tried it on another system (either another PSX or a PS2?)? Because along w/that "CDs are weird" goes this other statement: "lasers are finicky".

Never heard of the toothpaste method before, either. I've always boiled my CDs, and it's always worked. Just fill a pan with water, bring it to a boil, keep it submerged for about 20-30 seconds, pull er out, wipe er clean, then play.  :)

It's always worked for me, anyways, but I never had extreme problems like cracks in my CDs, either.

Ah, I love the smell of plastic-talk in the morning (and by morning I mean late afternoon). It's a passion of mine.

Toothpaste is wonderful if you are trying to remove scratches from plastic (it is an old Jedi mind trick, and my Jedi mind trick I mean model-kit technique), but that really says nothing about if a player can still read it. Toothpaste is essentially very fine sandpaper (only, you know, sans the paper). Using it just buffs the entire surface down to the same level as the scratch and smoothes everything else, but if the scratch wasn't the problem in the first place... And you are basically adding countless micro scratches to the disc anywho

Boiling CDs... never heard of that, but if I had to guess I'd say that would work nicely at removing some dirt and oil. Just be sure to not heat a CD to around 150 Celsius (glass transition state for polycarbonate, which is the usual makeup of CDs, if I am recalling correctly). Heck, just stay away from anything above 100 really (not usually a problem in water, admittedly).

... actually, if you have a disc that is just absolutely ruined by a crack with no hope of return, I suppose you could take a heat gun to it (actually, a non-convection oven might be better, since in a glass transition state the air itself might dent the plastic in undesirable ways). Heating it to the glass transition state might smooth it out enough fix the problem, but that is probably just the crazy in me talking.

Suppose one could also take a trip down to a local plastic shop (or browse online) and see if they sell anything for repairing cracks in polycarbonate too.

Personally, I find that a simple glass-cleaner rag thingy that we near/far-sighted type use for our eye-wear works wonders on CDs. They don't scratch and seem to suck up oil and dirt.

Curiously, I have been told that damage to the back of the CD is actually more likely to permanently ruin the CD than damage to the front. Supposedly the back is thinner so humidity can various chemicals can get in easier through undetected cracks.

Ja if the label get nicked in the slightest the disc is trash. all information on the disc is stored in a foil just beneath the cover of the disc. Normally stuff has a defenseless under belly with cd its the other way around.

I knew that but you need "transparent thootpaste" so It can read it, you put it on the Frezzer a night and break the paste and will look like new (if not use water to take it out).
And vuala new disc!! :D

Or you could try this method.
Haven't verified it, though...

That method looked extermemly stupid and utterly ridiculous, but I'm actually thinking of using it.

Actually, It first occured on a PS2. I tried it on a PSX, and I got the same result. And believe it or not, I actually attempted it on a PS3, and it still froze at that cutscene.
