Or you could try this method.
Haven't verified it, though...

That method looked extremely stupid and utterly ridiculous, but I'm actually thinking of using it.

Wait, have you tried it on another system (either another PSX or a PS2?)? Because along w/that "Cd's are weird" goes this other statement: "lasers are finicky".

Actually, It first occurred on a PS2. I tried it on a PSX, and I got the same result. And believe it or not, I actually attempted it on a PS3, and it still froze at that cutscene.

It because if the CD is scratched only if is "bad from factory" that will not solve it like my FFX.

Actually, It worked great when I bought it, I was able to play through the game without any kind of skipping or freezing whatsoever. BUT, then i left the game halfway across the country for a year, which expose it to all sorts of elements; Bratty Kids, Cheetoh fingers, Old People Breath, etc...

Chrono Trigger inspired me for 4 of my new books. xD It also made me ponder how life SUCKS when I'm NOT in a game production enterprise where I CAN make great games like it, or better yet, Chrono Brake? XP AND lotsa things I ain't gonna tell ya~ =P

After Playing Chrono Trigger For the first time when I was 9 or 10 years old I pretty much have held rpgs to a high standard. Anything below the Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 6 standard can pretty much kiss top soil from underneath. Legendary games cannot be topped and I haven't found any games to compete with these two
I like Earthbound just for the comic relief, fun game but yeah.

Chrono 4 Life!

aahh Final Fantasy 6. No true main protagonist, but all of the characters... were so unique. Definetley different from your average RPG.

Funny story... I was playing ff6 and had no idea how espers worked or how to gain magic.... pretty crappy until about 3 years later after playing 5 and discovering so much more and how much better it was than 5... I must say, as I grow older I take more looks at the instruction booklets...

I still say that Terra/Tina is the true main protagonist for several reasons...and that Star Ocean, Seiken Densetsu III, Breath of Fire III, Live-a-Live (2.0 of the translation is out and it's AMAZING!), Riviera: The Promised Land and FFT are among quite a few RPGs that partner CT & FFVI as legendary RPG status...more or less...>_>

Terra was the intro character in FFVI and by extension I think the player sort of tacked the "main character" status on her.  However, in the World of Ruin it seemed that the status shifted towards Celes being the "main character".

Personally, I WANTED Locke to be the main character (even though he really wasn't).

Celes is just the first character you get to use in the WoR...she's just there to gather the first few guys back together. She doesn't have that large a role story-wise in much of the WoR besides her own segment (but pretty much everyone's got just as large a role in the WoR)...

Kefka's main goal is the destruction of Hope itself. Banon recalls the story of Pandora's Box & attributes that last leftover shining bit of light, Hope, to Terra. She's also the one who most has to regain the ability to fight for the future of the world and the people she loves. She has to find herself and becomes the hope of many. Plus, she's half Esper, which plays a fairly large role in the storyline as well as Kefka gained his power (& his insanity) through Esper infusions (& later Esper Magicite).

If anything Celes is just the intro character for the WoR...not the other way around, though...I'd love to see a prequel going over the rise of the Empire after their massacre of the Esper World...raising Terra...Kefka & Celes being infused w/magic...Leo being a badass soldier. Gestahl being an asshole Emperor villain...

Well FF6 had something that many others don't.

I believe FF7 had it to.

The first antagonist seems to be Gesthal... however the fk you spell his name, but then it switched to kefka.

The same seemed to happen with Shinra to Sephiroth.

Either way, I love them both!  :D

That's not unique to either game in the series as it happens with Golbez & Zemus in FFIV...or even the FF series! Heck, even Chrono Trigger pulls that stunt when you think Magus is behind everything, but it turns out it's Lavos itself...It's like a red herring switcheroo or something...>_>

I was talking about the wide spectrum of rpgs excluding the final fantasy series.

I include Chrono in there because many of the guys on that team worked on many ff's.

Planscape: Ravel > transcended one
System shock 2: Many>SHODAN
Starcraft: Zerg>Protoss>zerg>protoss>humans>etc.
Skies of Arcadia: Valua> silver empire
Jade Empire: Emperor> Sun Li

It is a vary common plot device.

Don't forget Chrono Cross. That was a triple switch:

Lynx-->FATE-->Dragon Gods

I wouldn't really count the Weapons from FF7 as a plot shift... The main plot of the story didn't change at all, Sephiroth/Jenova was still the main enemy, the Weapons were just more of a plot device to build suspense than an actual shift.

I take it that T_Rod didn't enjoy CC?
