I'd have to agree with Thought on this.  Direct sequel?  Not so much.  Maybe distant sequel is a better term?

T Rod you said it.   I don't see how CC is a sequal because it basically has nothing to do with CT.  I have never played it but watched walkthroughs and read multiple reviews from gamefaqs.com and while it looks fun I would be lying to myself by saying it's a true sequal.   CT makes me more open to Time Travel and learning about time and space.

Well, first of all, if you had played CC, you wouldn't be saying that. How in the hell is "20 years after the events in Chrono Trigger" not a direct sequel to the game? It even directly refers to characters from CT, and for God's sake, Schala is in it! There is plenty of proof in the game that proves that it is indeed a direct sequel to CT (Not to mention the fact that SE SAID IT WAS).

Anyone who is claiming it as not a sequel, is simply butthurt that Crono and the gang are not the playable characters, or the fact that time traveling was not involved.
I, for one, am glad that the old crew wasn't involved in another adventure, and I embraced every moment of CC (Though I would be lying if I said I wasn't shocked time traveling was not involved), and found it worth every single cent I paid for, and more. In fact, I bought it on the release date, and it still has enough replay value to continue playing it today (I just went through it again about a month ago).

Cross owns, it's one of the best RPG's for the PS1, and certainly on a top 20 of my favorite RPGs of all time.

You have to be open about this shit, I believe a"direct sequel" has familiar playable characters. Kinda like ff7 compilation.

Anywho, when it comes to the sequel... crimson echoes all the way!

if chrono cross is on your top 20 list, that's not saying much.  unless you've played 5000 rpgs.

I don't recall any mention of a "Direct Sequel" in the post I was responding to - It was specifically said that Cross is not a "True Sequel", and that's what I was talking about.

I said it was a direct sequel, yeah, but the entire point of my post was to show the error in this statement here.
That being said, you can get all technical with the term "Direct Sequel" all you want, but that isn't going to change the fact that Cross is the ONLY sequel for Trigger (Made by SE, anyway). Arguing the fact that it's the sequel to CT is futile. SE said it was, it says so on the back cover on the game, and it has a massive amount of references and answers as to "What happened after CT?". Not only that, but how can ANYONE say that it's not a true sequel if they, quote, "have never played it"?

I'm not going to be open in any way, shape or form as to the argument to whether or not Cross is the sequel to Trigger, it IS THE SEQUEL, THE ONLY SEQUEL.

I have played a massive amount of RPGs, it's really the only game genre I play. I see your point here, though, allow me to rephrase a bit:
"Chrono Cross is one of my top 5 favorite RPGs for the PS1."
Better? =P
Xenogears is better, though. =P

I also play mostly RPGs(having played ~40+ on the snes *alone*; in total about 100-120--I realize this probably implies I have no life...), but in no way am I limited to that genre, at any rate.

Are we counting remakes of SNES RPGS?

Parasite Eve was a nice experiment by Square, but I don't see it as Top 5 PSX RPG worthy material...Let's see...idk if I'd even put CC in that list that high...I might put it in the Top 20 RPG list...but I'm thinking it might be a stretch...I mostly agree w/Anacalius' big post except he kept calling it the "only" when it's technically the "second" direct sequel...it's just that when CC came out, it sorta swapped continuity w/RD...

But, yeah, since Chrono Trigger's technically on PSX...I'd definitely put that higher up than CC, regardless of the minor loading time & TOIE annoyances...Other than that, my Top 5 PSX RPGs would include FFTactics, Breath of Fire III, Vagrant Story, and, uh...damn, I need to play more good PSX RPGs...I hear the Suikoden games are good...uh...and, yeah, Xenogears...Dragon Quest VII was nice...though probably not Top 5 material itself...yeah...I could probably do GBA better than PSX, myself...>_>

Why did I make this post, again?

Chrono Cross is sequel enough to Trigger that if any other new Chrono game comes out it will have to follow on the
events of Cross.. Serge, Harle and Kid  and others would make appearances in it..

Yeah, I liked Parasite Eve a lot, myself, but it really holds no meaning to me today. It's replay value is really lacking.

I mostly agree w/Anacalius' big post except he kept calling it the "only" when it's technically the "second" direct sequel...it's just that when CC came out, it sorta swapped continuity w/RD...

Well, I meant that it is the only current sequel, storywise, but yeah, I definitely should have said it differently, my bad.

But, yeah, since Chrono Trigger's technically on PSX...I'd definitely put that higher up than CC, regardless of the minor loading time & TOIE annoyances...Other than that, my Top 5 PSX RPGs would include FFTactics, Breath of Fire III, Vagrant Story, and, uh...damn, I need to play more good PSX RPGs...I hear the Suikoden games are good...uh...and, yeah, Xenogears...Dragon Quest VII was nice...though probably not Top 5 material itself...yeah...

Wow, I'm shocked you've played all those other ones and haven't ever played Suikoden series. =O
Suikoden is pretty damn good. Xenogears still remains my favorite RPG for PS1, though.

I guess you "Could" count them, but I personally try to keep them on the SNES list.

Chrono Cross is sequel enough to Trigger that if any other new Chrono game comes out it will have to follow on the
events of Chross.. Serge, Harle and Kid  and others would make appearances in it..

Yeah, hopefully no one will have a tantrum if they aren't playable characters and SE goes and commits the awful crime of making new playable characters to expand the Chrono Universe. *SARCASM*, in case you didn't notice.

Also, tell me that Vagrant Story is apart of those...

Meh, Vagrant Story loses uber points for me simply because of it's menu system. Don't get me wrong - I liked the game, but it's menu system slaughters replay value for me. D=

Awful Crime... hahaha , well, i did not know it would amount to that...
Tastes vary among fans, but that is probably how SE would do it, if they did bother doing it...

What is there to be embarrassed about?
It's not embarrassing in any way to be a gamer who has played an uber amount of games - ESPECIALLY true when you think about the reality of the fact that this is a VIDEO GAME FORUM! =P
