...Next time on Dragon Ball Z...!
« on: April 16, 2008, 10:56:33 pm »
So... I'm pretty pumped for Dragon Ball.  I know we still have a year to go or so, but I want to publicly state right here that I'm excited for this movie.

What do YOOOOOU think?

90% of movies are fail but you'll still see them.

DBZ will suck, but I am still going to see it.

Gosh, even Dragon Ball Z the anime sort of sucked...  But... but I find myself overwhelmed with hope for this movie.  I feel like it will be like Transformers.  Not as bad as it could've been, but not anything to write home about.

Hahahaha... That's perfection.

So back in high school I was really into the whole "indie rock scene" (and still am to a lesser extent), and for a while some of us created a feux-metal gimmick band.  Meaning that we pulled insane and off the wall gimmicks to appeal to the audience.

One show we dressed up as characters from DBZ.

Our lead guitarist shaved his head and was short, so he dressed up as Krillin.
Our rhythm guitar player was built similar to Nappa, so he was Nappa (grew the facial hair and all).
The singer, Russ, just wore a Goku gi.
The bass player dressed up as a ROUGH ROUGH Piccolo...
And I wore a Goku gi and pretended to be a Saiyan (as the drummer).  During the set I snuck off and spiked my hair and had my (then) girlfriend spray my hair yellowish gold.  When I came back, my power level was WAAAAY beyond 9000.  For realz.

To say the least...

Gosh.  That's almost an embarrassing story.  Feel free to make fun.

I think you needed to share that story and that's the REAL reason you made this thread. That's what I think.

Since Toriyama won't have anything to do with it, it'll suck bawls. If I do end up seeing it, I won't be paying for it, that's for damn sure.

And the Transformers movie was lame because it was called TRANSFORMERS, not A COUPLE OF STUPID KIDS WHO HAPPEN TO MEET THE TRANSFORMERS as it obviously should have been titled...FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!! I don't need stupid humans to relate to if you make the Transformers the actual focus of THEIR freakin MOVIE! And thus, that's why even the old animated Transformers movie that introduced lame-o Rodius Prime was better than the live action CGI BS we got. :P

V, have you actually seen the old Transformers Movie recently? It was bad. Really bad. Mystery Science Theater 3000 bad. Manos: the Hands of Fate is almost on par with it.

The new movie suffered from too many characters and too little time (holy crap, character development, in a movie?!) but the effects were cool.

As for the DBZ movie, I can see it now. It will be a trilogy, obviously, and the second movie will be nothing but stalling while the manga gets far enough ahead so that they can release the third movie. I wonder if they will have that monster-truck-rally announcer guy...

"On the next Dragon Ball Z: Look out Goku, Freeza's got a new bag of tricks. But don't worry, silly Goku, Tricks are for Kids! On the next, DRAGONNN BAAAAAAL ZZ!!!"

Actually, I do a fairly good impersonation of that voice.

I actually think Justin Chatwin will make an okay Goku.  He seems to have that same "airy" personality, and some of facial expressions are spot on of Goku's.  Now I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, and of course now it doesn't seem nearly as cool (or as good), but still...

Would it be fair to say it sucks, Dragon Ball Z?

And I suppose this is not a cartoon?  That will be lame, just like any other cartoon/game to live action movie.  Computer animated might be interesting though.

Is this movie for Dragonball Z or Dragonball?

It's actually late Dragon Ball - the Evil Piccolo saga...

So pretty much a teenage Goku beats the tar out of the Evil Demon King Piccolo and his minions.  It pretty much ends with Good Piccolo (Piccolo Jr.), the Piccolo of DBZ being born/created...

The next movie will probably begin with the beginning of DBZ: the Saiyan Saga.  That brings about Vegeta...

Marsters as Piccolo is genius and perfect.  He has it all down.  Plus, some of the people working on this film at least claim to be big fans of DB and DBZ.  I know Marsters himself as claimed that he was a huge fan LOOOOONG before this movie.

One good thing about this is that the movie IS taking place in the far future, in the Far East, so we know that they're keeping at least THAT much true to the source material.

Yeah, I wasn't exactly calling it the best thing since sliced bread, y'know? The new one had fancy graphics...that's totally not enough to be good. The old one had that awesome scene when Galvatron totally (& finally) layed the smackdown on Starscream. Nice revenge for the Astro Train scene...

Starscream: Oh, how it pains me to do this!
Megatron: Wait, I still function!
Starscream: Wanna bet?

Starscream: Who dares disrupt my coronation?
Galvatron: Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy.
Starscream: Megatron, is that you?
Galvatron: Here's a hint.
*ONE DEAD STARSCREAM*
Galvatron: Does anyone else want to fill his shoes?

What'd the new movie have? A bunch of talk about a cube that no one ever mentioned in any of the other continuity (that I know of)...>_>

Oh well, at least I still have Beast Wars (& even Beast Machines!)...
