There's entirely too little discussion going on recently (i.e., since I began imbibing the alcoholic beverage I'm currently drinking), and maybe this won't budge things even a little. BUT -- if you could have a choice between the following two changes being made to Chrono Cross' overarching narrative, which would you choose?

1.) Replacing Marcy with some other character - probably female, awesome in some way, and adult, as opposed to a 9-year-old. This hypothetical character's role as one of the Four Devas would still be retained.

2.) Having Marle survive the Porrean assualt on Guardia, and partaking in the events of Chrono Cross guised as a cloaked ninja -- complete with either Shadow's Theme from Final Fantasy VI or the "Boomerang Flash" Theme from Wild Arms playing whenever she's onscreen. This does not preclude Marle from changing into more normal clothing at some point, though still using her fallen husband's katana.

I hope I've elicited some hefty laughter, or incredulous gawks at your computer screen. Now for the really important question -- WTF is FaustWolf drinking?

This is merely a fun test to give me some insight into the psychology of the average Chrono fan. Some of you may be aware of the Cross hacking progress (for which I should be pushing harder, and promise to return to full-time once I've got Real Life issues like GETTING A JOB  out of the way), and eventually, in the long-term, we will come to the point of being capable of overhauling Chrono Cross, fulfilling various fan desires. The only question is whether we will have to do so through straight hacking or through some other 3D game engine. I've been completing college projects in a dreamlike trance as of late, wondering what the storyline possibilities for an overhauled-Chrono Cross might be. My current dreamy thoughts will profoundly affect the course of whatever scenario possibilities I'd suggest once we acquire the necessary level of technical sophistication.

You may also use this thread to deposit your thanks to Luminaire85, who has coded a working Chrono Cross battle model import script, and like the Hero of Time that he is, tolerates my long absence from the Chrono Cross Model Project with admirable patience.

And before you make a choice regarding the question in this post, allow me to leave an image indelibly marked upon your brain:

Super Nintendo kudos to whoever guesses which game's box art this image came from.

EDIT: I really like the way this thread is progressing -- we're kicking around really strange and unforeseen ideas, and breaking new ground in the realm of fanon. Thus, I shall ask: What really crazy, off-the-wall notions does everyone have about possible alterations to Chrono Cross' scenario? Seeing as Kato put giant robots and a man-eating sunflower in Radical Dreamers, I see no reason why any holds should be barred.

Sadly, no laughs...you're obviously too enamored w/that pic/idea of ninja Marle for your own good (not to mention ours)...I don't mind Marcy much (heck, I put a slightly older version of her in Magness)...I mean, one of the characters who didn't have a stupid accent?!? Sweet! Bonus points! V_V

Anyways, I still say that it's completely plausible that Marle & Crono DID survive the Fall. But seriously? Marle w/a katana? She was barely any good w/a bow!

Oh, and my guess for that image is...uh...Ronin?

Excellent feedback, V. At the very least, I may have gotten you to shout, "NOT ANOTHER NINJA MARLE THREAD! FAUSTWOLF, STOP!" at your computer screen.

I've reviewed some of the evidence on the Compendium, and it does indeed appear that both Crono and Marle surviving is extremely plausible. However, has the matter of their "ghosts" been addressed within the context of their survival? The ghosts of Marle, Lucca, and Crono appear together, suggesting that they may be in the same state of being -- or perhaps some temporal mayhem explains everything. I don't want to re-tread arguments that have already been made, but I welcome relevant thread links if anyone happens to recall them.

This thread will help me develop a basic understanding of what the Chrono Community would like to see if we reach the level of technical expertise necessary to give Chrono Cross an overhaul. The changes I have suggested are both highly "liberal" -- eschewing canon to some degree (in the nixing Marcy case) or injecting an inordinate amount of "fanon" (in the Ninja Marle case). If these things leave a bad taste in people's mouths, I will have learned that the Community is in fact very conservative with respect to canon, wanting far less drastic changes.

EDIT: The SNES game that image came from was called The Ninja Warriors: Again. "Again," because it was either a sequel or remake of a game for another system. Fun times, fun times.

I do have to credit Lyonskar's Dream Splash! entry "Marle in Soul Calibur 3!" with the Marle/katana combination. I thought it would be extremely strange at first, but after I saw that one fanart of Marle holding a sai and dressed in some kickass overcoat, I indeed became enamored. Lols.

I believe the ghosts, as they appear in the time crash, are explained away by Miguel as mere echoes of the dead future...In regards to the ghosts as they appear on Opassa Beach...I have no theories, personally. Perhaps they're similar to Masa & Mune? Dreams made corporal...?

From my limited knowledge, it appears that would almost have to be the way of it -- though I like the idea of one or more CT characters being sucked into a temporal portal by whatever helped out Porre (this is implied as a possibility in the relevant Compendium articles). Maybe whatever it was had a hand in Grobyc's construction as well...intriguing.

Just because I'm so inclined, I'm going to post my three fave Marle fanarts, so people have an idea as to just what the heck I'm smoking. The first two are "Ninja Marle" concepts of unknown authorship, and the third is a sketch by maggiekarp. Note that I altered MK's such that I could get Marle by herself -- so the weird flubs are my foolish bowdlerizations and this is not the original doodle.

These pics show that Marle, post 1005 AG (anno Guardia, my preferred time system for the Chronoverse), has much potential for awesomeness and character development. Maybe even...ninja angst.

Marle drinking her pains away...?  That makes sense.  She could be chilling in Termina, barmaid by day...  Rogue Radical Dreamer operative by night!

But if making her a replacement Diva for Marcy might lead elsewhere.  That way, the backstory would pretty much have to be detailed through dialogue.

Rogue Radical Dreamer operative...I like.

I actually didn't mean to suggest replacing Marcy with Marle, although that too is an incredibly intriguing idea if Marle could infiltrate the ranks without being recognized somehow. I had originally thought an all-new character, possibly Beatrix (FF9) without the pirate patch, could be introduced. But now that you mention it...

If you were to replace Marcy with say, an older Marcy, I'd choose that, as the latter just seems silly. Really, I wouldn't mind seeing an older Marcy. I don't know how I'd go with replacing her with an entirely new, There are so many characters that I'd rather have replaced, provided it is tastefully done.

I like Marcy the way she is.. She is the first sweet, cute, sadistic little girl I've ever seen in my RPG experience (which is not a very extensive one though).. haha

Can I choose C? Replacing every character that didn't have pants with that same character that DOES have pants.

Really, I wonder about the character designers. Korcha was bad enough, Mel puts ass-skirts to shame, Nikki was a protoform of Tidus, Marcy is a fighting genius who wears a skirt apparently, but Zoah?! Stab my eyes out with a wet noodle. I suppose we could also extend this to replacing any character with a stupid costume with the same character but with a good costume. But that would be a gianormous undertaking in itself.

Yes, I'm going to get a thread going for everyone's wishlist at some point, I'd just prefer to find the fieldscript and complete our understanding of all the game resources before whipping everyone into a frenzy. I agree fullheartedly about Zoah. I like the helm, but that dude needs some black armor to go with it. And a battle ax so that he'll look like this dude:

WTF? Imagevenue tells me this GIF is Not Safe For Work. Apparently it's too awesome for their servers.

Of course, Marle, Lucca, and Chrono could all be dead in Home World but alive in Another World (or the other way around).

Or not. In Terra tower they might well be part of Belthasar's illusion, and on Opassa beach we might suppose that they are a sort of leak from the DBT, yet more echoes of dead timelines. I forget, are they present in both Home World and Another World?

EDIT: Faust, obviously that image is NTSW because the axe is a classic phallic symbol... or something like that. Maybe that isn't actually a loincloth?

I was wondering about how Home v. Another would play into the CT gang's survival (or non-survival). The dimensions split after the Fall of Guardia though, right? But in any case, that doesn't rule out the possibility that they could have different fates owing to how events played out after the fall.

Now that making Marcy an avatar for the Water Dragon might be a feasible "fanon" possibility, I might just lay off the poor little'un and think of a way to expand her role in the story into something especially uber and unforeseen.

Imagevenue is now telling me that none of the Chrono pics I'm trying to upload there are safe for work. Maggiekarp's barfly Marle got through okay, but that's a JPEG I think. No GIFs are safe! NONE!

This thread also raises the question...what are we gonna do with Skelly? Chrono Cross almost fulfilled my dream of having an animated skeleton as a playable character, then sadistically twisted my feelings by putting that skeleton in a clown suit.

I vote Nazgul Skelly to accompany Ninja Marle, Dragon Marcy, and Pants-Zoah. Oh -- and I didn't mention Kung Fu Flea to you all yet. Flea's expanded role is a surety, seeing as The Gundanium Alchemist, MagilsugaM, BROJ and I created this portrait in a fit of fan revelry:

It was like Weird Science, only she didn't end up with an 80s hairdo and we're not sure if we really created a woman. In any case, Flea already fights with his/her fists, just in a sissy way. Flea is in serious need of a martial art.

Skelly is a bit of problem. Maybe replace him with a model of Emily Deschanel?

That is a fun Flea, by and by. I can see the single techs now; "Gender Bender," "Sexually Confussed," and "Drag'in the Queen."

We could have a subplot where Ms. Deschanel is sucked into the Chronoverse and solves the mystery of Skelly's murder!

Truth be told, something really interesting could be done with a deceased character. I wonder if Porre has advanced forensic technology?
