New DS game from the Kato/Mitsuda team
« on: April 23, 2008, 11:42:16 am »
I found these at GameFAQs, but I'm rehosting them at Imageshack b/c the original host (Imagebam) had a pic on the sidelines that might be interpreted as NSFW.

Kato? Mitsuda? Who else do you freakin' need for a new Chrono game? Though I do appreciate Akira Toriyama's ingenious character design (if not necessarily his style).

That pirate Care Bear in the second image makes me worried, though. I predict someone in the storyline will be stabbed...just a hunch.

EDIT: Original GameFAQs post is here. Thanks to TaiTzu for the discovery, which RPGamer hasn't even unveiled yet:

Bullets to butter says that the pirate teddy bear's role in the story will lack proper character motivation and that, instead of using a sword or something reasonable for a weapon, he'll use a bucket, a dead parrot, a mop, or something else that is just plain stupid.

Why, oh why, do game designers insist on including these sorts of characters?

Other than that, it looks very promising.

Amen. Though if the teddy bear seriously injures someone with a dead parrot as part of the storyline, I will consider its role somewhat redeemed.

Can anyone tell if one of the two dudes shown in the first pic is either Mitsuda or Kato?

Ah, you beat me to starting this thread. Good man.

I'm excited for this. After Chrono Trigger, Xenogears is my favorite rpg (and had they executed a bit more on disk 2...well, who knows) so key team members getting back together makes me optimitic for a good game. I hope they do an English version; I'll surely pick it up.

Thanks homeslice!  I'll check out the other links when I get home...

It sort of looks like a young Cloud Strife wearing the clothes of Chuck Norris, while wearing a Waffle House apron.

I like!  I like!

He obviously roundhouse kicks his enemies into a delicious breakfast... but in a very angsty way.

D'oh! A storyline description was sitting on RPGfan all this time.
http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2008/1149.html

"World Destruction's protagonist ... possesses powers capable of annihilating the entire world."

Indeed, his resemblance to Chuck Norris increases by the minute.

Until then, we'll have The World Ends With You.

What does The World Ends With You have to do w/Kato & Mitsuda? Oh? Nothing? That's what I thought.

I think the hero looks more like Ramza than Cloud...but not really like either besides the blond mop top...does he have a kilt on...? Why does the symbol on the pirate bear's bandanna look familiar??

Ah, Kunihiko Tanaka also designed the characters for the Xenogears/Xenosaga series.

Why does the symbol on the pirate bear's bandanna look familiar??

The symbol bears a striking similarity to the shape of the runes in Dragon Force, a classic Sega Saturn SRPG. Were there any shapes like that in Xenogears or Xenosaga, I wonder?

Yeah, but none of that has anything to do w/the topic at hand, really...Also, since The World Ends With You is Tri-Ace, I'd attribute it more with the Enix half than the Square half, myself...

Anyways, that's not what I was thinking of, FaustWolf...And I haven't played either Xeno series enough to be that familiar w/any symbol, so I don't think that's it...Hmm...I'm playing too many games, so it could be anything, I think...V_V
