They're all too old & lame to play anything good

Because basketball isn't 'anything good'?

The only basketball game that was ever any good was NBA Jam...! OMG! Guess who was throwin' down back in the ol' 16-Bit days??

So, yeah, I guess you're right...basketball CAN be good...! >_>

I feel like Huckabee would be the only person on that list who would consider playing video games.  Plus, he's the most entertaining.  So Huckabee wins hands down.  I would play Metal Gear Solid 4 with him until we beat it.  Or maybe a 2 player co-op of Oblivion (Huckabee would use his funds to make a MOD that allows for 2 player co-op).

I second that Oblivion idea, and I can't wait not to play MGS4, considering I don't have a PS3.

*sigh* I'm gonna go play MGS3 now.

Genius campaign move or ultimately too much for a politician?  Only time will tell.

Hmmm... McCain's probably played a few military simulators, so there is actually a good chance he'd be a competent gamer. But the question would be if his reflexes are up to par and would he get angry if he lost?

Obama would be a little difficult to play with, I suspect. Not because of lack of ability, mind you, just lack of experience and potential misconceptions on how video games actually work.

Clinton? I don't know... Universal Health Care and Deathmatches don't seem like a good combination. Healing everyone is sort of counter productive (and it would probably really tax system resources, causing terrible lag, and it might potentially result in server crashes).

Huckabee would probably be good for a few laughs; he seems like a pleasant fellow. Not the sort I want running my server, mind you, but fun to hang out with. However, I highly doubt he even knows what a video game is.

Oh, are we suddenly neoconservatives now?

Or, you know, anything but that particular brand of pseudoliberalism that requires one to agree perfectly with a single subgroup of the Democratic party. That could range from more-extreme liberalism, moderatism, old conservative, new conservative, retro-conservative, independent, anarchist, liberal-conservative, voter-apathy party, etc. There is a rather wide spectrum of political views out there; a veritable rainbow of political skin-colors, if you will. Disagreeing with one politician does not force one into any other specific viewpoint.

I'm just hoping that she get's the VP slot. She's already supporting Obama... An Obama/Clinton Ticket would be the bomb.

Exactly.

Wait, you meant that in a good way, not the explody-destorying-the-Democratic-party sort of way, didn't you? Never mind then.

That's what I get for using figures of speech that died in 1997, I guess. I meant that an Obama/Clinton ticket is just what this country needs.

I'm so torn right now.  If our country wasn't in the middle of an economic shithole it would be so much easier to choose my vote...

Tsssh, w/e.  Heal when their health is in the yellow, not in the white.  Although, Curaga usually costs the  highest, to be fair.  But a proper healer has curaga and the less expensive cure i, ii and iii.  And all at no cost to the one being healed!

True that. It just cos me a good $40 bucks to fill up my car earlier today... Groceries was about $70 even though it was under, say, 15 itemes. I wasn't the one paying, but still. It's just damn ridiculous.

What's really ridiculous is that they don't include food and energy in the core rate of inflation and food and energy are two of the biggest costs out there for most all.

It is? Eurostat might argue differently.

American unemployment just hit 5.5%, didn't it? In general, the unemployment in Europe is around 7% (for 2007; I can't find good 2008 numbers), if I am reading Eurostat correctly.

GDP per capita in PPS for the United States is around 150 (the EU 27 countries being the baseline at 100). To give some perspective, Germany is 112.4, Spain is 101.6, France is 108.1, Luxemburg is 277.4, and the UK is 115.5

Labor productivity per person employed in the U.S. is 140.5. Germany is 104.5, Spain is 100.3, France is 121.4, mighty Luxembourg is 176.7, and the UK is 109.5.

The inflation rate in Europe has been around 2.3% (Germany 2.3, Spain 2.8, France 1.6, Luxembourg 2.7, UK 2.3), in the U.S. it has been around 2.9%.

Gas prices in the United States are annoyingly high, especially considering that we've been fairly foolish and spread our population centers out quite a bit, but you are probably paying between $3.80 and $4.50 a gallon. In Europe you can find gas at the basement bargain price of $11.00 a gallon.

Currently, the American economy isn't doing too bad but the problem comes in when we look at the trends. Over the past 10ish years, America has constantly had higher inflation (helps that Europe started using a new currency during that period, to be fair). It currently isn't as high has it has been, but it is higher than we might like. America's economy is still "growing" but over the last year or two this has not been on pace with population increases (so even though it has “grown”, the result feels more like a shrink). Still, this indicator seems to swing ever few years regardless, so I suspect that it doesn’t really matter who is elected; there is a good chance that it will be back up to more acceptable levels in about twoish years. Unemployment is still incredibly low compared to some places in Europe and even America’s own history... but it is rising.

Economics has a lot to do with what is going on out in the field, as it were, but one of the biggest hurdles is consumer conceptions. If people think that the economy is in the middle of a shithole, then it is. But if people think the economy is doing well, it will be doing well. This is one of the things that really annoys me; every time CNN, Fox News, NBC, the BBC, etc says that an economy is doing poorly, they are the ones (significantly) responsible for it.

It is a Catch 22. If news agencies report poor economic performance, they are just reporting the news. But the very act of reporting the news makes the matters worse. It is like telling a hypochondriac that they are developing a nasty cough; it might be true, but it well make them overreact. Yet if the news doesn't report poor economic indicators, they might help the economy for the present but they wont be actually reporting the news (and it gets into very dangerous grounds when we try to determine what, exactly, news agencies should and should not report).

Tsssh, w/e.  Heal when their health is in the yellow, not in the white.  Although, Curaga usually costs the  highest, to be fair.  But a proper healer has curaga and the less expensive cure i, ii and iii.  And all at no cost to the one being healed!

Ah, but you are making two assumptions there. 1) Clinton is a proper healer and 2) When done properly, healing does not cost the one being healed.

Now I can't objectively say if Clinton is a proper healer or not, but to me it does seem like she wants to drop a large health pack even when someone's just taken a few points of damage and she that she would not hold back on  using a Wish Spell even if the situation only calls for a Cure Light Wounds. And sometimes, it is better not to heal at all and just go for the game winning kill. She's better than having no healer on your team, but all of the candidates are willing to play a cleric (or at least a Paladin). The question is how effective the builds of each would be.

As for cost, while the player being healed might not loose experience points, tokens, weapons, or whatever the system is using, there is a fairly high cost in general. All those special effects flying around the arena constantly, that really taxes a system's resources. That might not be that bad for those with fancy, up-to-date, computers, with those side buses, gigabytes of ram, amazing high speed internet connections, etc but I'm generally running on hardware that is several years old. I can only turn down the resolution so much and cut so many effects before there is nothing left; it would still lag my computer.

Not to mention the huge amounts of data that would have to bounce around the network in general. You'd need huge processing power for that, which probably means you'll need to upgrade the server. Unfortunately you then run into problems of interfacing old hardware with new, and let’s not forget that new products always come with bugs that still need to be worked out. I don't particularly want to have to wait for the next patch to come out just to play a game.

Nah, that would make online play just too difficult and time consuming. With all the lag going on, you'd be sniped by someone camping the respawn point before the arena even loaded.

Besides, you know that she'd insist that there really is a secret elephant level. You just have to click on the Washington Monument a few more times to access it. ;)

I'll say this: currently living in Europe, I can tell you that the American dollar is lame, and that economy perception or not, America's economy is not what it has been the past two decades.

Also, I have noticed this first hand: when America is hurting, the whole world hurts some, too.

Oh good, it's not just me then. Misery loves company, so I thank you for sharing that, Tact. Do you know that the "Average American" is supposed to live on $5 per day according to Consumer Credit Counseling services? $600 for grocieries a month for a family of four, equals roughly $5 per person. You want ketchup with your burgers tonight? Oh, hoh, hoh, fogettaboutit. Pickles were gone a long time ago. Eating out? Pshaw, who can afford to pay for human labor in addition to food costs? That was so 1990s.

If I may add to your observations a bit, Thought, there are two very serious problems hidden within the 5.5% unemployment statistic. First, unemployment is distributed extremely unequally among the State economies; Texas is at around 3.9%, whereas Michigan is at around 6.9%. Thus, the people of Texas and the people of Michigan will give two very different stories about the "US economy." The people of Detroit, in which the unemployment rate is currently 7.7%, will provide even more dismal analysis.

Secondly, I do wish the Bureau of Labor Statistics would begin reporting on the problem of underemployment. Wanna know what the best-paying job is in a certain county in northeast Ohio right now? Striptease. I am not shitting you; that's being advertised in my local newspaper right now, along with some waitering, dishwashing, and truck driving. I did not go to college to strip (there's a "male review" position open locally as well as "dancer" positions, so I can't blame my gender), waiter, clean dishes, or drive trucks. Even the local county democratic party is so strapped for cash that the campaign job I could have had this election season has vanished before my very feet. And the State government is in an employment freeze (there was a Cleveland gov't job fair recently that - get this - advertised zero jobs!) Thus I'm doing volunteer work on behalf of Obama from home until I can find a job to pay for gas, and although I graduated at the very top of my college class, nobody's answering my resumes because jobs are being snapped up even before they're listed, apparently.

This is not meant to be a bitchfest post; I am extremely fortunate in that mommy and daddy are offering to pay for my grad school, and I am assuming a Master's degree in a well-chosen field will lead to a job that does not insult my educational attainment. One could also blame me for not moving to Texas or Minnesota, or at least expanding my job search beyond the next-county-over. Besides, my situation bodes extremely well for Chrono Cross hacking in the near future.  :lee: However, if I as a college grad am in this position, I know there are many others in Ohio, Michigan, and other high-unemployment, high-underemployment States who are far less fortunate than I, especially if they've been kicked-out-of-the-nest or had-a-kid-too-early and whatnot. The media may sound too pessimistic, but the talking heads still have a ways to go before they start sounding realistic to the Ohio viewer.

My, that felt good. Much of my economics training took place under a professor who labeled himself "Dr. Doom," so that may also partially explain my pessimism. But perhaps the best economic indicator I've come across was my staunchly-Republican dentist, who turned to me in early May and said, "What, you mean the recession we're not supposed to be in?"

This is a bit odd, but I'd play Crash team racing with Huckabee.  Some of you may think I'm weird for picking that, but the only systems I have are PS1, and Gamecube.( Which I just got for Christmas)I'm not complaining though, usually the old games are the best ones.  I mean, CT is older than I am, and it's one of my favorites.  If I was old enough to vote I would chose him.  If Mcain hadn't already beaten him.  Although if it was a matter of completely destroying them, I'd play Smash bros Melee with Clinton.
