Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes - HELP WANTED!
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:55:47 pm »

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Chrono_Trigger:_Crimson_Echoes.html

Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes is a fan sequel to Chrono Trigger in development since 2005. The plot follows the original cast of Chrono Trigger, featuring other familiar faces and new innovations alike. Produced with Temporal Flux, the project has employed the talent of countless Compendiumites and will serve as the most powerful proof of ROM hacking prowess yet. Crimson Echoes is also the current official Chrono Compendium fan project, meaning all resources are engaged toward its completion.

But we need your help! Right now, the skeleton of Crimson Echoes is FINISHED. This means a very rough version of all events exists for the entire game. The next tasks will be polishing the game, writing dialogue, and ultimately beta testing. Polishing means fixing up maps and working on new sprites for enemies and characters.

OPEN POSITIONS FOR CHRONO TRIGGER: CRIMSON ECHOES

* Spriters / Graphic Hackers — Spriting is also easy for the right talent, but if you want to contribute, you'll also need to know how to hack the sprites into the game. Knowledge of sprite assembly is a huge plus. If you want to test your skills, replace the balloon sprites with something new according to this challenge: http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,5381.0.html

Many hands make light work! By contributing to Crimson Echoes, you will effectively push up the release date. You'll also get your name in the credits and "own" a piece of what will be the first completed full fan sequel to Chrono Trigger and the first full, new-story ROM hack of an RPG ever produced. If you would like to contribute, please use these methods of contact:

I'm down to help.  I have a bit of pixel art experience so I could try my hand at mapping, and I'm extremely anal about grammar, so text editing I'd be good for.  I'm also interested in maybe writing script scenarios and wording character dialogue.

I would love to help.

Question, is it possible to hack animation files into the game like what was done in CT for the playstation? If so I could give that game an extra spice!

If by "animation files" you mean anime cutscenes, T_rod, that won't be doable because the team is working with a far less advanced system architecture in the case of Crimson Echoes. It's not meant to be run on a Playstation emulator, but an SNES emulator.

Although...
...but I imagine it would be impossible to migrate to a modification of the PSX game image, given that the project has gone very far along the SNES path already.

if you want to be a mapper please PM me.  if you want to be a spriter please complete this little challenge:

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php/topic,5381.0.html

FW is working on a guide to help you with it.  Sorry for forcing you to do a challenge but I had to many people tell me they wanted to be spriters and they didn't know how to insert sprites into a game.

No by cutscene I mean I could do a swf sprite or actual drawing scene and if possible it could be programmed in... that kinda sux since it won't work

Mapping, thanks to TF really as easy as point and click I suggest you should give it a try and see if it suits you :)

The story is basically all fleshed out and any changes would really have to be done by the people coding it at this point.  Beta testing will probably be for people who have been with us for a long time or helping in making the game.

Quick question:

Poking around to see what it takes to get Temporal Flux running shows that I would need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 on my system.  Further poking shows that the latest version of .NET Framework is 3.5, though 2.0 is still available.  In the interest of Trigger Modding, should go with 2.0 over 3.5?

I believe they are treated as separate installations.  Install 2.0 and visit Windows Update again to make sure you get any and all patches/service packs for it that were released.

Mr. 42, everyone's on their own to find a Chrono Trigger ROM, but it's a pretty easy find on Google.

Argh, I'll let everyone know when the graphics insertion tutorial is complete. It's going to be at least another week though.

I already have a Chrono Trigger ROM. I'm asking basically how do I empty out all the storyline-specific data from it so I could start creating a new game using the Chrono Trigger engine with Temporal Flux? I'd want to keep all the graphics, characters and battle rules, just get rid of all the specific battles and maps and dialogue and other storyline elements.

and once somone gets an "empty" chrono trigger rom, i would guess that they could probably distribute an IPS patch for it without getting in trouble, couldn't they?
